Freedoms are eroded

Editor,

Let’s see now, freedom of choice is the American way, so does that mean the public option is the American way? Option one, a choosing on choice; option two, the right or liberty of choosing.

Now as far as breaking the bank, well the bank was broken by the last so called conservative administration. They took over with a large budget surplus and left us with a projected $1.2 trillion deficit for the fiscal year ending this month I think. Where was the outcry about the government takeover when they passed the massive high-priced prescription drug bill? Where was the outcry when they passed the $168 billion stimulus package? What about the $700 billion so called bank bailout?

You know the president is still spending some of the bank bail out money. Why did every one get all bent out of shape about the $800 billion stimulus for the whole country and not the $700 billion package for the bank bail out?

I will tell you this, I thank God for my government health insurance, you know that’s what we are talking about, not government health care.

P.S. I have Medicare.

You are correct, we are to love our enemies. But he also knows that everyone does not respond to love in a positive mannner. So he gave us the right to defend our homes and families. Not only did he give us that right to own weapons, he also gave us wisdom to know when to use self defense. I have never shot any one for being on my property, God gives us wisdom to know when our families are being threatened. You make it sound completely different, like everyone that owns a gun just wants to shoot someone down. Love for your fellow man includes my daughters, do I love them enough to keep them safe from a rapist or murderer? Do I love them enought to ensure that they have a father to raise them up in a God fearing home? We must have compassion on everyone, true, but we also must have compassion to protect ourselves, families, friends from evil people. Becuse when I tell God I had to kill another who was going to kill my family, he will in fact find it an appropiate answer.

Jesus said to love your enemies and to spread the "Good News" to the world. Now, please tell me how you go into a country, bomb it to the stone ages and then come in and say.. "Hey, can I talk to you about my Savior, Jesus!" Furthermore, how do you go on the attack and expect these people to actually listen to you about how great democracy is!

When we answer to our Lord, do you honestly believe you'll be able to say, "Lord, he was on my property so I shot him to death" and that will be an acceptable answer? NO! The Word refers to love of your fellow man far more than it refers to gun rights and self defense!

Do you all realize you have the very best defense in the entire world? If you are saved and have faith you have the defense of the Lord! If God is for you then what can man do to you? Where you see fear, you see a lack of faith! Believe me, I deal with this one on a daily basis! I have days when I become consumed with a spirit of fear, but then I realize my faith is lacking. Our defense is not in our guns and armies, our defense is found in our Lord!

As I've said before, and I'll say again, we need to be passionate about the things God is passionate about. If we can all muster up the faith and courage to do that, we'll see a real turn around in the political divide and corruption!

Ron Sr...wrote,

patriot, with a little "p", your hypocrisy must be a badge of honor to you. Your dad served? So that gives you license to question anyone who doesn't swallow your right wing nut theology of what you think life should be like in this country. You are a nut case, to put it mildly.

I find it interesting that most of the Party of No never served in the military but they prance around like they are the only true patriots. And you worship at the feet of the biggest mouth cowards the right wing nuts have ever produced, Druggy Limbaugh and Lonesome Roads Beck. They never served anyone but themselves either.

You mentioned the 60's adage, "What if there was a war and no one showed up?" Let me give you another one since you think the United States of America should stomp around flexing its muscles to the rest of the world, "What if the United States was attacked, and the rest of the world joined with the attackers?" Whose sons and daughters are you going to send to sacrifice at your alter of Pride then?

The Patriot:

DittyBopper - My last post was not accepted. I was listing the reasons why I think liberals should not be in charge of American foreign policy - and I would sincerely be interested in your opinion of these thoughts:

Obama has reneged on our commitment to the missile shield defense and turned his back on our new Eastern European allies - Poland and the Czech Republic.

Obama has failed to support Iranian democratic dissidents after the corrupt election in Iran while some were being murdered in the streets.

Obama has interfered in the internal politics of Honduras where that country is fighting for its democratic survival against a Marxist who is trying to unilaterally change that country's constitution so he can rule for life. Obama has taken the identical position of Chavez and Castro with respect to Honduras.

Obama has done much to alienate our most important ally in the Middle East by unilaterally demanding the halt of settlements without similar requests from the Palestinians. I think the numbers are like less that 15% of the Israeli population view Obama has having their best interests at heart.

He has constantly called for negotiations with thugs and dictators with no pre-conditions. The news today about Iran's nuclear facility demonstrates the folly in this approach.

He constantly apologizes all over the globe for America's supposed transgressions. While not perfect, this country is the greatest force for good and truth on the planet. Barack Obama looks at America and does not see exceptionalism. That is frightening.

I believe he is weak, will appease our enemies and will make this country much weaker. These are my sincere beliefs...

DittyBopper:

I had already posted my prior post about why I think liberal policies are dangerous.

I agree 100% with you that conservatives don't have a monopoly on patriotism. However, I do abhor the slanderous comments about our troops and the position that congressional Dems took on the Iraq War. Agree or disagree, they behaved dishonorably.

I share your deep love and commitment to this country and I shudder at times to think of the direction we're headed (under Repubs and Dems) - but I must admit I am frightened by our current administration. This group does not believe in American exceptionalism - and this country is exceptional.

America has nothing to apologize for - we are not perfect - but we are the greatest force for good and truth on the planet.

I'm sure you'll agree with those sentiments.

I do sincerely believe, however, that liberals should not hold all the reins of power in this country. I think history provides some support for that.

As two patriots, we can respectfully and honorably disagree on that point.

No criticism of your lack of military service was intended.

My criticism is that some conservatives (and you appear to be one of them) believe they have all the patriotism, all the religion and all the wisdom.

Of course, some like Ron Sr think just the opposite is true.

Being a liberal and a patriot are not mutually exclusive ideas.

I get teary-eyed when the National Anthem is played. I love to see our warplanes do flyovers. I love driving around this great country of ours admiring its beauty.

I bet you feel the same way.

But remember, it was you who wrote: "Liberals cannot be trusted with the national security of this great nation."

That is just not true. You should know better.

I for one will not allow you to make those false statements without comment.

Dittybopper - Although I disagree with your liberalism, I honor your military service to this great nation. You are a true Patriot. In my humble opinion, Vietnam was a noble effort to resist Communist tyranny and - while our brave soldiers performed brilliantly - our government performed poorly in the execution of this war.

I have not served in the military, although my father did. I often think the experience would have made me a much better man.

I sense some criticism on your part regarding my lack of military service - I'll leave the comparisons between our patriotism to you...

I certainly would never question yours...

I am a proud Vietnam era veteran. I had a top secret cryptographic clearance. I am a liberal.

My country thought I could be trusted.

We are all Americans. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. The lunatic left fringe and the lunatic right fringe make all the noise. Where and when did you serve Patriot? I'm not saying you didn't serve.. I just want to compare my patriotism with yours.

Dana - I'm certainly no Biblical scholar, but I'm quite certain that the Bible refers to the inherent evil that exists in the hearts of some men. I'm sure you adhere to that 60's maxim...

"What if they had a war, and nobody showed up?"

Well.... here's a corollary to that...

"What if they had a war, and only the bad guys showed up?"

Liberals cannot be trusted with the national security of this great nation...

Old Ronnie thinks that when the government "lets you keep more of your own money" - why, they are being so gracious by "giving you a tax break."

Dana

Matthew 26: 40-56, that does not have any explaination of anything except the fact that in order for prophecy to be fulfilled then Jesus must be crucified. He was telling Peter that it is not time to defend now, because it was time for the fullfilment of the word. Almost all Bible scholars tell us that in Luke 22: 36-38, Jesus is now letting us know that his time in the flesh teaching is done, and now they must go without him. With 3 things that they never needed with him, a purse, a bag, and a sword. He had always provided for their food and shelter and protection. But now they must go into the world and fend for themselves, they would be exposed to poverty, hunger, and danger without Jesus. They must sell their cloak and by a sword to protect themselves (self defense) not to be aggressors. Read the Bible its in their. If it were as you say, Jesus would not have told all the disciples to buy a sword.

Murray - only a socialist like you would think a third-grade teacher should make the same money as a well-qualified neurosurgeon...And you're right - you are a real belly laugh. Of course, it's also a belly laugh to think of myself living in a gated community. I'm smack in the middle of the middle class, sir - with mountains of debt and a great appreciation for living in this wonderful country. Wish you could share some of that patriotic feeling, old friend. We should all be thankful and appreciative of the fact that we are Americans...

Louie, I didn't put bombs together on an aircraft carrier. I worked in a munitions depot. I never got any of those air launched bombs back, nor did any of the other 30 Sailors who worked with me to test and assemble them. It was our hope that some of them were used to protect the lives of those brave GI's who were fighting the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army on the ground. I hope there are a lot fewer names on that Wall in Washington DC because of what we did. So you can ridicule all you want, at least we tried and we served. What did you do?

What dignity and pride are you talking about? The entire world was laughing their backsides off at the idiocy of your hero's. One couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time and the other was a villian from a bad Hollywood movie. Surrounded by a bunch of grumpy old men who use to be picked on as Nerds when they were in school. A total package of losers.

Confusious say: "Man who counts chickens before they hatch could wind up with rotten egg on face".

patriot, you are so blind you can not see, so deaf you can not hear, and so dumb you can not understand.

25 years of economic growth. How was it growth when we borrowed trillions to shore it up? Wages stagnated or dropped for the majority of the working men and women of this country. We spent money like pouring water out of a bucket while giving tax breaks to people who didn't need them with a promise of jobs we didn't get. The country is now in the worst depression since the Great Depression and President Obama is working to reverse the affects of Supply Side Voodoo Economics. You can not have a strong economy in a country that doesn't make anything.

The American Medical Association has never supported any legislation like Single Payor or Public Choice Options for health insurance. But even they have seen the handwriting on the wall. Most of the doctors who oppose a Public Choice Option are specialist. The doctors who charge the most and get paid the most. There are many who have sold their souls for the thirty pieces of silver doled out by the Insurance Industry. The Insurance Industry owns doctors, lawyer, governors, state legislators, senators, and representatives. They are like puppets on a string. What about the Constitution that you so love to thump. Doesn't We the People mean anything to you?

Who says there are waiting periods in those countries that have Universal Health Care. They have intreviewed the directors of those programs on C-Span and they say that story is a lie. Have you ever been to one of those countries and interviewed the citizens at a hospital? Or do you just read newsmax.com and believe the lies they spread?

Come on, patriot, where is your patriotism for someone besides the money changers you love. How can you sit there in your little office, earning your little lower middle class pay check, and defend the very people who are keeping you in your place? Just think, if this nations economy was growing like it should you would be able to negotiate better pay for yourself instead of cutting the pay and benefits of those who work for you in order to just maintain your status quo. Wouldn't that make you feel good?

Murray - your post is so devoid of substance, it ain't even worth my time to argue with you.

Well - just one point - I guess it has escaped you that Reagan ushered in an unprecedented 25-year period of economic expansion in this country with his economic programs. Oh, but wait - that would be another fact that you liberals just can't stomach...

I think patriot is just playing stupid. He must be having a real belly laugh putting out his ridiculous drivel. No one could possibly be that ignorant.

He says that doctors spend 8 years in college, work their butts off as interns, and deserve to get paid more money. Yet he also claims that people who work for a living, dedicate their butts to making the companies they work for successful, should accept whatever that corporation wants to pay them and keep their mouths shut about it. What makes one man or woman worth more than another man or woman? How much would doctors be paid if we all became doctors? Maybe we should go back to the old days and pay them with a chicken, some eggs, a couple bushels of apples, or a pig.

Teachers go to school all of their lives, have control and care of our children for at least 13 years of their lives, and the Party of No feels they get paid to much. Druggy Limbaugh wrails against them all the time.

How was this country founded by the fathers to discriminate against anyone who lives in this country based on their economic status? I guess I must have missed the area in Richmond County where patriot lives. I didn't know there was a gated community with armed guards to protect the wealthy residence in this county.
