Gillis Sloan Jr., 45, McDonald Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure on Sept. 7 after an altercation at an apartment complex in Hamlet.
The argument ignited after Sloan drove up to the victim’s apartment and began arguing with him in the parking lot. The incident escalated after Sloan exited his vehicle and began fighting with the victim while still in the parking lot.
Some neighbors attempted to break-up the fight after pulling both men away from each other.
The victim than left the parking lot and went into his apartment while Gillis began walking to his car. Gillis than ran towards the apartment and pushed his way through the door.
The two men began fighting again inside the apartment and then Gillis began stabbing the victim in the side of the chest, police say.
The argument was sparked over an ex-girlfriend, police say.
His bond has been set at $25,000.

n Erica Renee Morgan, 24, Green Lake Road, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. She was released with a written promise to appear in court.
n Robert Lester Pulliam, 24, was arrested for misdemeanor second-degree trespassing. Bond was set at $500.
n Frederick Michael Hicks, 47, Durham Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor shoplifting/concealment of goods. His bond was set at $500.
n Dwight McDouglas Fairley, 52, Hamlet Lake Court, was arrested for misdemeanor second-degree trespassing. Bond was set at $500.
n Michael Anthony Foss, 40, Lackey Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor driving with license revoked, misdemeanor revoked or suspended tags and misdemeanor operating vehicle with no insurance. Bond was set at $6,000.
n Arthur Jamar Bostic, 24, Piney Pointe Drive, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor injury to real property. He was released with a written promise to appear in court.
n Steven Wayne Knorr, 32, Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor driving while influenced, order for arrest and misdemeanor probation violation, order for arrest. Bond was set at $5,000.
n Barbara Lee Braddy, 53, Thomas Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor simple assault. She was released with a written promise to appear in court.
n Brett Thomas Amburgey, 27, 2nd Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court.
Incident reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:
n Someone reported $750 in cash and an EBT card being stolen from a vehicle on Williams Street.
n Two shotguns were stolen from a home on Columbia Avenue. The property stolen is valued at $550.
n A girl was assaulted on a basketball court on Thomas Street and was hospitalized after being cut.
n A woman on Clay Street was found dead in her home. The cause of death is not yet known.
n Someone stole $60 cash and broke the door and door frame after kicking in the back door to a home on Taylor Place.
n A resident on Beeler Avenue reported the attempted breaking and entering of a storage room.
n A woman reported her car door being heavily damaged while in the parking lot of a business on West Hamlet Avenue.
n A 2004 red Chrysler Sebring was reported stolen on Ridge Drive after the owner left the car running in their driveway.
n Copper piping was stolen from an air-conditioning on High Street. The property damaged or stolen is estimated at $5,200.
n A black go-cart was stolen from a home on Pam Street. The owner reported seeing the go-cart in a local pawn shop.
n On McDonald Avenue, a boy reported his mountain bike being stolen while walking along the sidewalk. Bike was valued at $125.
n A business on West Hamlet Avenue reported several harassing phone calls from a former employee.
Accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol include:
n On Sept. 19 at 8:58 p.m. on Fire Tower Road, Lauren Elizabeth Neal, 18, Fire Tower Road, Ellerbe was involved in an accident after Neal ran off the right side of the road, skidded out of control and struck a tree, according to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
She told troopers she swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
She was cited with a lane control violation.
Damage to her 2004 Mazda was estimated at $5,000.
n On Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. on NC Hwy. 73, Pedro Juan Pedro, 22, Snow Road, Norman, was involved in an accident after attempting to drive his vehicle with a flat front tire, but lost control, overcorrected, crossed the center line, struck a ditch and overturned. Pedro was impaired by alcohol.
Evidence on the roadway led troopers to believe the tire was on its rim, creating gouge marks on the roadway for 532 feet before losing control, according to reports from the NC Highway Patrol.
Pedro was cited with driving while influenced, open container, no license and careless and reckless driving.
Damage to his 1995 Toyota was estimated at $2,000.
n On Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. on Perry Leviner Road, Kara Abney, 25, US 1, Rockingham, was involved in an accident after exceeding a safe speed around a curve and lost control. After veering off the road, she struck a mailbox, crossed over Osborne Road, ran off the road and struck a tree and than struck another tree, according to reports.
She was taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
Abney was cited with careless and reckless driving, unsafe tires and failure to maintain lane control.
Damage to her 1994 Chevy was estimated at $6,000 and the mailbox was $50.
n On Sept. 17 at 11:17 a.m. on Bostick Road, James Farrell Russell, 51, NC Hwy 138, Albermarle, was involved in an accident after veering off the right side of the road, overcorrecting and running off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Russell was cited with a left of center violation and exceeding a safe speed.
Damage to his tractor trailer is estimated at $20,000.
n On Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m. on US Hwy. 74, Jerome Clyde Yates, 52, Dean Street, Charlotte, was involved in an accident after losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a median cable guardrail, according to reports from the Highway Patrol.
Yates was cited with failure to maintain lane control and exceeding a safe speed.
Damage to his 1990 Mercedes was estimated at $3,000 and the guard rail damage was estimated at $1,625.
n On Sept. 15 at 10:38 p.m. on Substation Road, Priscilla Kay Johnson, 17, 3rd Avenue Aleo and four passengers were involved in an accident after Johnson lost control of her vehicle while exceeding a safe speed and slammed into a tree, according to reports.
After several hours of investigation, the trooper determined the passengers were lying about who was driving and found Johnson at her home, who had left the scene, and tested positive on an Alco-Sensor.
Passengers were taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
Damage to her 1994 Ford was estimated at $2,000.
n On Sept. 14 at 11:04 p.m. on US 1, Bruce Wayne McLean, 20, Fairway Drive, Rockingham and Andrea Bady Kilgo, 41, Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, were involved in an accident after Kilgo was attempting to make a left turn onto Wiregrass Road and McLean failed to stop and collided with Kilgo, according to the Highway Patrol.
Passengers were taken to FHRMH for injuries.
McLean was cited with failure to reduce speed and driving with license revoked.
Damage to McLean’s 1994 Toyota was estimated at $2,000 and damage to Kilgo’s 2005 Honda was estimated at $2,500.
