Richmond County Hospice is gearing up for their first ever Steel Stampede on Sunday starting at 2 p.m.
“I’ve been in the community and hearing a lot of talk about it,” Lisa Ledford, Steel Stampede coordinator said.
Registration begins on Sunday at 1 p.m. and the ride begins at 2 p.m. at the Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy. 1, Rockingham.
The cost for a single rider is $10 and $15 for two.
According to Ledford, the scenic ride through Richmond County will cover ground in Rockingham, Ellerbe, Hoffman and Hamlet and in total will be approximately 55 miles long including a lap around Rockingham Speedway.
Hospice is anticipating nearly 100 riders to participate in the event and have riders coming from as far away as Davidson County and Virginia.
“We’re going to be out here in full force,” Ledford said.
The proceeds from the ride will benefit the non-profit Hospice and aid in funding support groups and patient care.
Riders will have the option to purchase ribbons to tie to their motorcycles to memorialize or honor friends and loved ones who have fought an illness.
“These ribbons will almost be like having another rider,” Ledford said. “As well as doing something good for the community.”
The ride will conclude on Main Street, Hamlet where riders will have hot dogs and music by the Pee Dee Blue Grass band.
