Green team’s quarterback Antonio Edens threw for two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Richmond past Hoke 18-14 Thursday afternoon. The victory improved the Green team’s record to 2-0 on the season. The Green team defeated South View 40-6 last week in the season-opener.
The Green team jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead and scored on the first offensive play of the game. Edens connected with Dakwa Nichols on a 99-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, giving Richmond a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Edens’ 2-yard touchdown run on a quarterback keeper, gave Richmond a 12-0 advantage at halftime.
Hoke used a turnover to get back into the game in the third.
Green team’s Tevin Zinnerman was stripped of the ball and Hoke’s Treqwon Covington returned the fumble recovery 50 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Green team’s lead to 12-6.
But the Green team came back to score before the end of the third as Edens threw his second touchdown of the contest, a 25-yard pass to Jordan Richardson, increasing the lead to 18-6.
Hoke failed to go away as Jawane Harris scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth. The Bucks added the two point conversion, narrowing the Green team’s lead to 18-14.
But the Green team’s defense held off Hoke in the final seconds to preserve the victory.
The Green team returns to action at 4 p.m. Thursday at Lumberton.
