The Richmond County Health Department will offer the seasonal influenza and pneumonia vaccines on Tuesday and Wednesday at the health department from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.

The vaccines will be administered at no charge to patients with the following insurance: North Carolina Medicaid, Medicare Part B, Railroad Medicare, Med-Cost, North Carolina Health Choice and Cigna. You must present your insurance card to receive the vaccine for free. The cost for all others is $42.

An annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method for preventing the flu virus and it’s complications. The influenza vaccine can be administered to any person aged six months and older, who does not have contraindications to vaccination, to reduce the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza or transmitting it to others.

It should be noted the seasonal influenza vaccine does not provide protection for the H1N1 virus. The H1N1 vaccine will be offered as soon as it is received.
