Temple Christian takes second

Temple Christian School finished second in the Jacksonville Invitational Tournament Aug. 28-29 in Jacksonville. Logan Conner, Felton Pross and Ian Sheppard were selected to the all-tournament team.

Temple Christian opened conference play Tuesday with a 6-2 win over Fayetteville Street Christian School of Asheboro. Conner had three goals and two assists, Pross added two goals and three assists, and and Kevin Seagraves scored the other goal in the victory.

The Tigers are 4-1 this season.

Play reviewed, ruled an interception

The unusual play during the Richmond-Lee County game was reviewed by the statistical crew and ruled as an interception for Antoine Bostick.

According to Shannon Brigman, a member of the statistical crew, Lee County quarterback Carson Wilson was at the 18-yard line when he attempted to pitch the ball out to running back Omar Murriell. Bostick was at the 19, when he grabbed the ball in the air, thus making the play an interception.

City of Hamlet accepting football, cheerleading signups

The City of Hamlet is now accepting registrations for football and cheerleading through Oct. 2. There will be a late registration period from Oct. 5-9.

The cost for cheerleading is $15, 6-8 year-old flag football is $30 and 9-12 year-old football is $50. There will a late fee of $10 if registered during the late period.

All participants will be placed in leagues based on their ages as of April 30, 2009.

Cheerleaders must have turned five on or before April 30, 2009 and cannot have turned 14 before the same date, while flag football players must have turned six and cannot have turned nine before the same date.

Football players in the 9-10 Junior League must weigh at least 65 pounds and cannot weigh over 135 pounds. Players in the 11-12 Senior League must weigh at least 75 pounds and cannot weigh over 165 pounds.

There will be a mandatory weigh-in on Oct. 10 at the Hamlet Memorial Park Gymnasium for all players in the Junior and Senior leagues. The 9-10 year-old weigh-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the 11-12 year-old weigh-in will start at 11 a.m.

Soccer referee meeting set

The City of Rockingham will have a meeting for anyone interested in refereeing soccer at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Parks and Recreation building.

Event slated for McKinney Lake

State Fish Hatchery

The Richmond County chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold an event designed to get young people involved in outdoor activities through its Greenwing program at the McKinney Lake State Fish Hatchery near Hoffman from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 19.

The event is open to children 17 and younger and will include fishing, lunch and a dog training demonstration.

There is a $20 fee, but the total cost includes a year membership in Greenwing.
