Employee tries to steal $12,800 from business

A business on East Broad Street lost approximately $12,800 after an employee forged signatures on business checks, according to reports from the Rockingham Police Department.

An employee at the business had been receiving money after cashing checks, under the false pretense of the owner. They would forge the signatures of the owner or those who could validate the check.

The largest amount of money missing has been determined and recovered, but two checks are still unaccounted for.

Other incidents reported by the Rockingham Police Department include:

n Two men near Leak Street and South Stewart Street reported a simple affray as both men were engaged in a fight in the middle of the road.

n Someone at a local business on East Broad Avenue reported a a wallet with $40 cash and $40 assorted property in it was lost or stolen.

n A resident on Cabel Boulevard reported a stolen license plate off of their vehicle.

n Someone outside of a business on East Washington Street was assaulted by an unknown individual.

n A Mary Lane resident reported an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle when someone they let borrow the vehicle did not return it.

n There was a domestic disturbance at a West Broad Street hotel.

n Property damage was reported after an individual broke through the front door of a 3rd Avenue Pee Dee residence. The owner was pursued by the individual until he became tired and left the property.

n A resident of Pineridge Drive reported someone communicating threats.

n A domestic disturbance on Picket Street was reported.

n A restaurant on U.S. 1 reported a customer failed to pay a bill before leaving.

n Damage to a vehicle was reported on Biltmore Drive. Property damage is estimated at $700.

n A business on East Broad Street was vandalized by graffiti on the outside wall of the building and doors. Damage was estimated at $200.

Arrests reported by the Rockingham Police Department include:

n Kayla Lynn Strickland, 17, East Temple Avenue, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor failure to appear. Her bond has been set at $500.

n Jennifer Elizabeth Burke, 26, Robinson Street, was arrested for two counts of misdemeanor failure to appear. Her bond has been set at $1,000.

n John McLaughlin, 36, Steele Street, was arrested for misdemeanor failure to appear. Bond has been set at $200.

Arrests reported by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office:

n Jerry Dean Guinn Jr., 29, Shaw Avenue, Southern Pines, was arrested for felony larceny and felony obtaining property by false pretense. He was released with a written promise to appear in court.

n Jimmie Chris Farris, 25, Champ Terry Road, Hamlet, was arrested for felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny. He was released with a written promise to appear in court.

n Ethan Vann Grant, 17, Wiregrass Road, Rockingham, was arrested for felony common law robbery. Bond has been set at $100,000.
