The entire Congress of the United States is corrupt. And I mean both houses and I mean both major parties. I realize that a few members of each House are independents and at least one is a declared Socialist, but as a group of people, they are absolutely the most corrupt bunch to ever disgrace our Nation.

In November of 2010 the entire House of Representatives will have to stand for re-election; all 435 of them. One third of the Senate, 33 of them, will also stand for re-election. Vote every incumbent out. And I mean every one of them.

No matter their party affiliation. Let’s start all over in the House of Representatives with 435 people who have absolutely no experience in running that body, with no political favors owed to anyone but their own constituents. Let’s make them understand that they work for us. They are answerable to us and they simply have to run that body with some common sense.

Two years later, in 2012, vote the next third of the incumbents in the Senate out. You’ll know who they are because their names will be on the ballot, and in most cases, will be shown as the incumbent. If you don’t know who your Senators are, (there are only two for each State) find out. And then vote them out, too. We can do the same thing in 2014 and, by that time we will have put all new people in that body as well.

We, the people, have got to take this country back and we have to do it peacefully. That’s what the framers of our Constitution envisioned.

At this point, we have the party of "no" vs the party that can't get together to do anything. It gets more ridiculous by the year. What infuriates me, as a Democrat, is watching my own party fight amongst themselves instead of doing what they were elected to do. I didn't spend all my time and energy campaigning for THIS MESS!

If you look to the other side of the aisle you have the party of "no", those who have no alternative plan and care more about party than country. I don't think you can be a political party when your answer to everything is "whatever the other guys said, I'm against that." They are actually disputing the president speaking to children about taking personal responsibility for their education no matter their economic status. Who disputes something like this? I don't get it! I would think every parent would teach their children personal responsibility, perseverance, hard work, and reaching goals.

I might make a lot of people angry with this statement, but it's the truth. If Hillary were president, we wouldn't be having this health care debacle again! She was realistic enough to know how much change you can expect in a certain amount of time. With that said, I believe Obama has his heart in the right place, but he has to rally the support of his own instead of continuing this game of compromise. One man and one administration cannot give us "change we can believe in" without the support of the house and senate.

And that is my liberal rant of the day!

Dana,

I am sorry if was misunderstood; I too feel that both parties keep the masses dumb and distracted from reality. Just look at the health care “debate”, lies and misdirection from both sides just to gain or keep the other from gaining control. Until people realize we are just pawns the sooner we can get off the board and live our lives. It will be difficult because there are too many true believers who think their party and the government actually cares.

Danny..... I never said special interest groups and lobbyist were one sided, they are equal opportunity crooks, they go both ways! Democrats and Republicans have failed to do away with the corruption and greed of special interest and lobbyist running our government, sadly, because they all benefit from it.

I have to disagree with you about the way they keep the masses dumbed down. I believe both parties run a game of distraction from the reality.

No Danny the situation is the way it is because we had a MORON REPUBLICAN as our president for the last eight years.

You are running your mouth when you have no clue what you are talking about. You do not know me. My husband and I probably paid $25.00 in tax money to the government for every buck your sorry red neck but has ever paid or will ever pay. Get your two functioning brain cells together and get over the last election!

Well said Mr. Steen. You have said what I have been trying to say but could not find the words. Each administration blames the previous one. This has been happening for years & no one person is to blame. We as a society are constantly looking for someone to blame and by doing this, we don't take responsibililty for our own actions. I do not follow politics as a rule, but I think that in the past year, more people are seeking truth and honesty in our leaders. I hope that the changes people are seeking are the right ones for us.

Fannie Mae,

Partisan attitudes such as yours are the reason the situation is the way it is. I never said Bush was blameless. True Bush did not eliminate the problem with special interest but neither did he create it. That problem has been around as long as government has. During the campaign Mr. Obama pledged that he would shun lobbyist even went as far as to say none would work for him. Not quite so is it.

The politicians are more afraid of and beholding to the lobbyist and the special interest they represent than they are of the voter.

You yourself is a special interest. You vote for the person who you think will give you the kind of representation and goodies you want. If they win you hope you get what you voted for. If they win they got what they wanted, the power of office. Don’t forget, any group that you support or is a member of that sends representatives to petition the government, is a special interest. It was special interest groups that got out the vote for Obama. It is the same with most elections.

The special interests are still running the show. They do not leave when the government changes hands or party. The one difference is that the special interests you like are on top, for now.

You speak of republican sins, there was democrats in power during the Bush years. Their lobbyist friends were there as well.

One other thing to remember, all the power and control you are handing over to government will someday go to Republicans. Do you really want them to have that kind of power?

I don’t want either gang to have that much control.

Danny tell me exactly what G. Bush did to get rid of lobbyist? Obama has been in office less than a year. Did you think he was going to be able to eliminate all of the Republican sins in less than a year?

Dana,

Why is it only the other side is a special interest or have lobbyist? What about unions, AARP, NAACP? These groups as well as many others left and right, republican and democrat are special interest and spend millions lobbying politicians.

Many complain about the BIG CORPORATIONS and greedy CEOs. What about GE whose CEO is deep into the Obama administration. GE, which stands to make BILLIONS on healthcare and the so called green movement. What about the insurance, drug, energy companies and other BIG CORPORATIONS that are falling in with the Obama administration and it plans to “Change the System. Are you going to speak out against them as well?

Before you go off on some tirade about me being anti-Obama, I am anti Big Government no matter who is in control. But you must face the facts that the government and BIG CORPORATIONS are in this together. BIG CORPORATIONS were in with Bush, Clinton, Bush, Cater, on back as far as you care to go and they are in with Obama. Some of the players and names may change but the system stays the same. The favorites get the favors and the rest have to pay to play.

Oh and as far as when did we become Romans;”sitting back and watching our country fall apart, and looking at it like the Romans watched killings in the coliseum? All the while, the citizens sit back and watch our politicians fight amongst themselves in the Coliseum, and at times we join in by chanting for our “team”.

The concept is called Bread and Circuses

Keep the masses fed and entertained and you can do anything you want. The Caesars knew this and our modern day rulers know this. The problem is the “Dumb Masses” don’t know this. Or maybe some do and have lobbyist to keep it that way?

Kevin.... when did it become an either or situation? I didn't realize I was deciding on abortion OR health care reform. Wouldn't it serve the country well to work on both? Now that would be a truly bipartisan approach to all of this.

One more thing about abortion, Kevin, stop using it as your political stump. You and every other dirty republican out there who claim this moral high ground because you are against abortions.

Well, I'm against abortions too, but I'm also against the living people dying because they have no health care in America. I'm against sending soldiers into war to be killed all for the sake of power and greed. What about those lives, Kevin?

Is it just the unborn who deserve the right to choose life or death? If this were truly the CAUSE of the politicians you elect and support, wouldn't they have done SOMETHING by now? Just a little something. You know I'm fairly certain if the republicans using abortion as a political football wanted to push through legislation limiting abortions, it would be done. Instead, they hold the football of abortion and continue to use it each and every time a moral issue comes up. In my eyes, that is just as bad as denying Americans the right to health care.

I posted about the special interest question before, but the powers that be, aka Bacon, must have missed that post considering I had something to say about the firefighter article in the paper.

So, let me try it again.... special interest and lobbyist are one in the same to me. I don't want to hear how a company should have a say in the way things operate! We've given the companies LOTS to say, more so than the people, and look where we are!

If you want a vote for your business, use your personal vote for that, lobbyist and special interest groups are not needed in the process! Let's face it, it's not like any of the small businesses have the money to lobby Washington, so who do the lobbyist and special interest groups work for, BIG CORPORATIONS! Big corporations responsible for putting people out of work to fill their own greedy CEO pockets.

When did we become Romans, sitting back and watching our country fall apart, and looking at it like the Romans watched killings in the coliseum? We must produce something as a nation, and health care shouldn't be a big product! Do you realize in another 7 years, if nothing changes, health care will be 37% of our Gross Domestic Product? Health Care is presently 17 or 18% of our GDP, which is crazy. We use to be a country which produced, and while we produced goods, we thrived. Somewhere along the way greed took over, and we became the nation of “ideas”, well that’s all well and good, to have great ideas, but if you sell the ideas to China, Korea, Japan, Mexico, and every other country that can and will produce for less, what does that do for America?

All the while, the citizens sit back and watch our politicians fight amongst themselves in the Coliseum, and at times we join in by chanting for our “team”. What ever happened to country first?

I gotta agree with Ellerbe Independent. I am so disappointed in both the democrats & the republicians that I am considering changing my status to independent. As soon as you think someone might be a good candidate, they screw up & become like the rests. I would love to see new candidates in all aspects of city, county, state, & federal government. Get rid of them all & put somebody in who is not corrupt or in it for their own agenda.

I am not Ms Sauls but I am more than willing to answer your question, when did they become villians? They became villains when they formed a monopoly to control the health care industry in this country. Every man, woman and child has a right to expect decent health care whether they can afford it or not. Someone who has had two husbands die of Cancer is answering your blog. I have never been on public assistance! It looks like I may have to be, if something isn't done to control the cost of Health care! The state utility commission controls our electricity. Why is health care not under a government control commission? I need health care just as badly as I need electricity! Is N.C. a communist state because we control the cost of electricity? I don't think so! I don't care what you charge for tobacco, soft dirnks, beer, and etc. These are not vital necessities. Health care is!

About time someone said it. It seems Special Interest, like greed, is only the other guy. No one wants to admit that their team has bums. The problem no one wants to see is that it’s Government that’s the problem.

No matter how much someone says it, government of “We the People” has long since passed. The only way we will return to the government we need is to let the bums in all levels of government know we are not buying their bill of goods anymore. Every program, bill, plan or any other “help” the government “gives” is just something else they take from us. Not just money is being taken from us.

A rose by any other name...."Special interest group" is a slur being bandied about with abandon lately, but if we must use it, let's be honest and open. The groups Ms. Sauls describes are in truth corporations that pay taxes, develop new businesses and products, and employ people. When did they become villains? I agree with you that lobbying can lead to influence peddling and corruption, but who are the most influential and powerful lobbyists? Labor unions (auto bailout and clunker program) AARP (health insurance plan), and the Sierra Club (cap and trade). It would seem the current administration is not immune to the desires of these "special interest groups". But again, I don't expect anyone here to actually look at both sides of the issue with an open mind.

I honestly hope that the health care bill don't go thru. I don't want goverment telling me what I can do and what I can't do as far as going to see a doctor. Goverment gets in you buisness, we are all doomed.

The entire health care debate wouldn't be nearly the debate it is right now if it weren't for special interest groups, like big pharmaceuticals, big health care corps, big insurance, etc...

Obama should have made passing a bill to kick the lobbyist out on their butt his first priority. I'll be curious to see how that plays out on both sides if a bill actually makes it to the floor.

I just saw J. McCain on Cnn giving a speech concerning the great increase in the cost of health care in this country. He did not mention the increased premiums or profits of the insurance industry nor the increased profits in the pharmaceutial industry. Do you suppose he is unaware of these facts? If I were giving a speech on increase cost I would do some homework as to why the cost was increasing. These two factors have got to be at least 50% of the problem. Typical Republican all smoke and no CIGAR!

I've had a no incumbent policy for several years now and I'll continue that poliy for as long as I'm a voter. My vision is for voters to impose a one term limit for all elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
