“It’s an unfortunate loss for the community,” said City Manager Marchell Adams-David. “We had such a great working relationship with him.”
Davis was proactive with the City of Hamlet and participated in many of the city’s planning meetings, she said. He held membership with the Hamlet Rotary Club and never hesitated to help the city.
“Andy was ready to assist the city whenever we needed anything,” Adams-David said.
Davis took his position as CEO at Sandhills Regional in July 2005 and since has been a dynamic presence in both the hospital and in the community.
Davis also took part in numerous committees and boards, one of which was the Richmond County United Way.
During his time with the United Way, he served as a United Way board member and later became the United Way board chairman, where he served with director Michelle Parrish.
“He was an awesome presence in the community,” Parrish said, “It’s going to be a sad day when he leaves. We wish him the best.”
Davis also shared duty with other county officials and aided with county projects and development plans when asked.
“He’s been one of our best team players,” said County Manager Rick Sago.
Davis sat with Sago on committees since he came to the Richmond County area and according to Sago, was always professional and took his job and commitments seriously.
Other of Davis’ community commitments included: Richmond County Hospice, Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Richmond, Richmond 2010 Executive Committee, Richmond County Economic Development Board, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship Committee, and Sandhills Community Care Network.
