According to reports, Wright was arrested in 2007 for the death of Carl Lee Buie, who died of severe burns after being doused with gasoline and ignited by Wright.
Initially, Wright saturated Buie’s groin area in flammable liquid before setting him on fire. He was found on the road on 5th Street, Safie in East Rockingham, still alive. Burns covered nearly 85 percent of his body. He died at the Burn Center at the UNC Hospitals.
Wright had received several prior arrests for aggravated crimes and served sentences before the event in 2007.
Other dispositions during the August term include:
n Curtis Haire was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. Haire will serve 20 to 33 month active sentence in the North Carolina Department of Correction.
n Earl Summers was found guilty of felony financial card fraud. He was sentenced to four to six months in prison, suspended. Summers may leave Richmond County for work purposes with prior approval.
n Percy Glenn Robinson was found guilty of felony possession with intent to sell or distribute and misdemeanor resisting a public officer and was sentenced to a 45 days in prison and at the expiration of the first sentence will begin serving another 30 days, suspended.
n Richard Glenn Byrd was found guilty of felony possession of stolen good and felony conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses. He is to serve 45 days in jail, suspended, and pay damages to businesses affected.
n Eric Wayne Callihan was found guilty of felony breaking, entering and felony larceny and possession of stolen goods. Byrd is to serve 11-14 months in prison.
n Jesse Lee Collins was found guilty of felony possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine. Sentencing is nine to 11 months in jail, suspended.
n Preston Antonio Dawkins was convicted of felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor protective order violation. Dawkins is to serve eight to 10 months in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections, suspended.
n William Nelson Hayes Jr. was convicted of felony possession with intent to sell of distribute cocaine and felony maintaining of a drug vehicle or dwelling. He was given six to eight months in prison, suspended.
n James Howard Lear was convicted of felony obtaining property by false pretenses and misdemeanor larceny. He will serve an active 30 days in the Richmond County Jail.
n Marty Ray Tarlton was found guilty of misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. He is to serve one 120 day sentence, suspended, and at the expiration serve another 120 day sentence.
n Donald Lee Wall plead no contest to felony possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana. He was sentenced to six to eight months, suspended, in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
n Jernarian Leon Weathers was convicted of felony fleeing or eluding arrest. He is to serve eight to 10 months with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
n Timothy Brian Webster was found guilty of misdemeanor larceny and given 45 days in jail, suspended.
n Johnny Richard Gerald was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a sentence of 45 days in the Department of Corrections, suspended.
n Shannon Torrel Harrington was found guilty of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, misdemeanor fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle and misdemeanor resisting public officer. She was given two 120 day sentences, suspended.
n Amber Dawn Malpass was charged with felony larceny from a person. She was sentenced to 120 days in jail.
n Bennie Stuckey Jr. was found guilty of felony obtaining property by false pretense. He is was sentenced to 11 to 14 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections, suspended.
The next session for the Superior Court in Richmond County will be held on September 8.
