Around 2 a.m., the Hamlet Police Department received a call from the home after a woman heard a loud noise from outside.
Arriving at the house, police discovered a man bleeding profusely from the leg. The man was identified as the occupant of the home. The Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist in the investigation.
A 9mm handgun was discovered at the scene by the K-9 unit, along with the shell casing for the ammunition used during the attempted invasion.
No arrests have been made, Hamlet police reports said.
Other incidents reported to the Hamlet Police Department include:
n A local man attempted to shoplift $40.22 worth of steaks from a local grocery store.
n Someone has been drafting large amounts of money by phone from two individual’s bank accounts for the past few months.
n A home on Hamlet Lake Court, Hamlet, was robbed after someone removed an air-conditioning unit from a window. Property lost during the robbery totaled $600.
n A bank on Charlotte Street, Hamlet lost $4,975 after someone cashed a check under a false identity.
n A convenience store on Thomas Street, Hamlet, lost $210 after someone destroyed property and stole merchandise from the business.
n A business on Raleigh Street, Hamlet, had a vacuum cleaner valued at $700 stolen and a window was broken worth $200.
n A self-employed man reported someone stole a leaf blower out of his trailer at Quail Hollow Apartments in Hamlet.
Arrests reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:
n Walter James Harden, 28, Ponderosa Drive, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor operating a vehicle with no insurance and failure to appear. Bond has been set at $500.
n Billy Jack Hunt, 31, Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor shoplifting and misdemeanor larceny. Bond has been set at $2,000.
n Lorenzo Ike Petues, 27, Bizzell Street, Laurinburg, was arrested for misdemeanor disturbing the peace. A $500 bond was set.
