Quit wasting money

Dear Editor

Referring to Mr. Steve Davis’ letter of July 15th. You are lucky just read on and you will see just how the town councilmen operate. I’m referring to my case back 15 years ago.

When they put in a sewage line on my street the line was not put in low enough for houses with sewage lines coming out of basements. They surveyed and said my line was two feet lower than the line in the street. At that time all five councilmen voted to stop charging me and give me a refund. One councilman called two of my neighbors and asked if they were or could connect to sewage. They told me they weren’t but they could that their lines came out at the side of the house. He then called the town manager saying I could connect up. That vote was stopped.

Then they couldn’t find a top connector for my house like other houses on the street. They all voted the next month to see if they could get an easement from neighbors on a corner lot to couple me up, and if not they would stop charging me for sewage. They did not get an easement, but they just ignored the vote.

Years back when they wanted to extend the town limits beyond the end of my street, they left 15 acres on a pond out of limits. One of them or a family member owns that land. That’s how our good town councilmen do things.

They should stop wasting money on taking up trees and on the Depot and use that money by cutting bushes and trees at street intersections so you can see before entering.

It is a bad thing when people change after getting into office. There is another voting day coming.

Donald Quick

Thank you for giving me the tools I need to make a informed decision. I don't know why you take everything I say out of context. All I have asked for is some answers and proof as to why I need to vote people out of office. I admit I haven't kept up with current events like I should have, but I want to be logical when making a big decision like this.

To Bootsy:

I am sure that anything that I say you will be distorted by you. I suggest that you go to city hall and ask for a copy of the following documents:

Letter to the Hamlet Tree Presevation & beautifician Board from Mayor Jess Smart dated May 1, 1008

Hamlet City Council Planning Session: Mar.1, 2008

Petetion to the City of Hamlet Dated Feb, 2, 2009

Memorandum TO: Department Deads (of the city) from Marchelle Adams David, City Manager

After you read these, if you want more I will be happy to give you references for future reading.

No need to get nasty. I asked a valid question. I don't know anything about a petition that was mentioned in a earlier blog,I have no idea what they keep talking about the same block that has been redone many times, & I don't know much about the railroad museum except that people have donated to it & it is supposed to showcase the railroad industry. Maybe I have had my head buried in the sand about current events in Hamlet, but I asked for information so I can make a decision based on facts & not revenge or whatever it is that is going on.

No Bootsy you are not all ears nor eyes. If you haven't figured this out by now you are either a registered voter our of the county or you have a vested interest in the local political political machine that is running this town in the ground!

Sorry, but my interpretation is different than yours. There is another post that makes me believe this because it mentions problems & Unger,Preslar, & Covington in the same sentence. I know that Mr. Unger is gone, & it seems that the general idea is "out with the old & in with the new." I am a registered voter, and plan on exercising my right to vote, maybe someone can tell me why I should vote for change in Hamlet? I am all ears and want to make an informed decision.

Congratulations to the National RR Museum! What a long hard struggle it has been for this group of hard working volunteers. Your success is a testament to what a volunteer group can accomplish in the city of Hamlet in spite of being sabotaged by City Hall!

Bootsy, Unless I have misread the blogs on this site, no one has said that we need to vote every

council preson out of office. There was a mention of Cleaning out city hall, which could have been taken any number of ways. That was not the way I took the statement

Jessie McQueen holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from the University of N.C. at Pembroke. This is the same degree that Marchelle holds. He has the education and integrity to make decisions and is far more in tune with the wants and needs of this town than the current mayor and city manager. I emphasis integrity because that is just as important as the degree. Half of city hall seems to have no integrity. Frankly I think most City employees would be delighted to get rid of Marchelle. I cannot imagine our city employees enjoying signing that letter she forced them to sign last year, denying their right to free speach OFF OF THE JOB! That letter could get the city of Hamlet into more legal problems.

Look at the problems that this town has already faced because of her, Unger, Presler, and Covington. Even before she became city manager, her name lurked in the legal problems Hamlet encountered. Where there is this much smoke, you can bet there are some flames.

Smart is certainly not a chip off of the old block! He has shone no leadership qualities. He is more than happy to let Marchelle run this town with no questions asked. If we don't get them out of office it is going to take a life time to get this town out of debt!!!!!

I have no agenda. My interest is in Hamlet. Change is needed, but I am not sure about the changes that involve getting rid of all of city council, the mayor, and the city manager. Who else is on the agenda? Should the rest of the department heads be nervous? Are they next?

Good letter Donald! I am still madder then heck about that petition that was circulated down on Main Street which had forged signatures on it and signatures from people who lived in Marston, Rockingham and almost in S.C. It was signed by the Mayor, Mayo and Horn. This petition had no addresses or phone numbers. It was impossible to authenticate the signatures, yet THE MAYOR and the City Manager accepted the petition and City Hall ACTED ON IT! It will be a cold day in August when I eat at Mayo's, Vote for Jess Smart; or have an Rx filled on Main Street in Hamlet! Jessie McQueen is one of the few that I can get a straight answer from ! We need to clean out the City Council also.

Bootsy, I just asked you on Mrs Boney's blog if you had a financial interest in these three blocks on main street and you declined to answer my question? I am asking you again because you didn't answer the question. Mrs Boney has no personal agenda here, what is yours?

This county has a long history of politicians using their power for their own agenda. To play devil's advocate here, what happened to you happened 15 years ago. The town council has changed hands since then. Is anyone still on from 15 years ago? I know change is necessary and even welcome but do we honestly need people who are in it for their own agenda?
