Some little known stories of Richmond County’s involvement in the Civil War will be presented at the Aug. 17 meeting of the Richmond County Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the Rockingham City Hall.
Among the stories will be how the death of a pet chicken brought a Union officer’s promise the family would be bothered no more. Also, some Union soldiers were killed in a skirmish and buried. The grave site is still tended.
The name and location of a factory here making rifles and swords for the Confederacy will be revealed.
The public is invited to attend and participate.
