Ten family caregivers will be selected to receive a booklet of vouchers that they can use through May 31, 2010 that pays for in-home aide services so the caregiver can have a temporary break from their caregiving duties. Each voucher will purchase one hour of respite service and can be combined to allow the caregiver the time they may need to run errands, attend doctor’s appointments, grocery shop or have some time away from home for their own personal needs. Southeastern Health Care Services of Rockingham will be the local agency providing the in-home aides.
To be eligible for the program, the caregiver must be living with a family member who meets one of the following criteria: (1) is of any age with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia; (2) is caring for a frail, sick or elderly person over the age of 60 years who needs assistance with at least two of their activities of daily living; or (3) has a neurological or brain disorder that requires daily supervision and assistance. The person needing care must not be receiving any services through Hospice or Medicaid CAP or PCS programs.
Caregiver’s wishing to use this program can register at Southeastern Health Care Services located at 1219 Rockingham Road in Rockingham this Monday-Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. For questions about these services or directions, contact Kay Morman or Tracy Williams at (910) 997-6807.
