The Lumber River Council of Governments is giving away 22 $100 vouchers for back-to-school clothes and supplies to grandparents and older relative caregivers of school children.

The recipients will be determined on the basis of need and service priority. To be eligible, one must be at least 55 years old, have custodial care of the child in their home without the parent living there, be raising either a child between five and 18 or a severely disabled child from five to 22 and have the financial responsibility of raising the child.

Those who received a voucher last year are not eligible. The vouchers will be redeemable at Wal-Mart’s Rockingham store in mid-August.

Applications can be filled-out at the Hamlet Senior Center from Monday through Friday next week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Contact Susan Sellers at (910) 582-7985 for more information or directions.
