In the first game, Chesterfield County eliminated Mallard Creek behind an eight-run third inning en route to a 14-0 blanking of Mallard Creek. Chesterfield County will play Great Neck, which stayed alive after beating Jamestown 14-7, today at 3 p.m.
Chesterfield’s Brett Jones pitched four innings of scoreless baseball, while collecting nine strikeouts. Nathan Eaton went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a three-run home run in the third inning over the center field fence. Joey Lowry slugged a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Jason Ciucci went 2-for-3 with a double, while Michael Higgins was 1-for-2 with a double and a run batted in. Andrew Duesing and Casey Howell both went 1-for-3 and Brian Fitch was 1-for-1 with a run driven in.
Mallard Creek totaled three hits with J.T. Austin, Will Monti and Chandler Church all going 1-for-2 at the plate.
In the second game, Great Neck used a seven-run second inning to cruised to its 14-7 victory over Jamestown.
Bodie Sheehan and Lance Wildman both led the way for Great Neck by going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, while Derek Richardson was 2-for-4 with a run driven in. Bryce Becker was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Great Neck’s starter David Van Geluwe gave up three runs, five hits and collected three strikeouts in three innings of work.
Jamestown’s Jake Moebius went 1-for-4 with a grand slam, while Ben Fischer went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
Jamestown used different pitchers that combined to issue 10 walks, while the offensive stranded nine men on base.
n The Rockingham 13-14-year-old All-Star team knocked off Kempsville Blue (Va.) 11-2 Tuesday evening in the Pony Regional Tournament in Davidson.
Rockingham faces Chesterfield County (Va.) at 8 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game on Friday.
Chandler Fann and Cody Wilson were both 3-for-3 with a home run, while Austin Brower was 2-for-3 with a home run. Andre Patterson added two hits in four at bats and Jeremy Smith went 2-for-5.
Jacob Sears earned the victory on the mound for Rockingham.
“Jeremy and Michael (Steele) are playing solid defensive,” Rockingham coach Robert Steele said. “And Todd (Inman) is playing great behind the plate.”
n The Rockingham 9-10-year-old All-Star team finished as runner-ups in the Mustang Piedmont Sectional Tournament last weekend in Archdale.
Garner defeated Rockingham 6-5 to win the tournament. In the loss, Dylan Bostick and Jonathan Lee were both 2-for-3 at the plate, while Luke Hoggard was 2-for-4 for Rockingham.
Rockingham defeated Archdale 7-2 in the first game played on Saturday to force the deciding game.
