Former RSHS star named to Cape Cod League All-Star squad

East Carolina rising senior Kyle Roller is one of 42 players named to participate in the 2009 Under Armour Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game to be held on Thursday at Boston’s Fenway Park with a first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.

Roller, who helped the Pirates to the 2009 Conference USA regular season title and its first appearance in a Super Regional since 2004, is batting .326.

The Rockingham native leads the Cape in doubles (9), slugging percentage (.576) and extra-base hits (14), while ranking among the leaders in home runs (4), RBI (13) and runs scored (13).

Raider football announces practice times for its players

All Richmond Senior High School football players must have physicals, and trainers and coaches must have a copy of the physical before players are allowed to practice.

All rising juniors and seniors should report to the Richmond Senior High School weight room for a meeting on July 31 at 8 p.m. Practice will take place from 9:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Practice will resume from 12:01 - 12:20 a.m.

All rising sophomores should report to the RSHS weight room on July 31 at 6:30 p.m. to receive equipment. Practice will run from 9:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. and 12:01 - 12:20 a.m.

All rising freshmen should report to the lower end of Richmond’s football practice field at on Aug. 3 at 9:50 a.m. Practice will run from 10 a.m. - noon. All rising freshmen need to bring T-shirts, shorts and football cleats.

Leak Street High School to host

summer basketball league

Leak Street High School will sponsor a summer basketball league. Signups will be accepted until July 23.

The cost is $25 per child, but if two or more children from the same household sign up, then the cost is $20 per child. The age groups are 6-9, 10-14 and 15-17.

In addition, coaches are needed for the league.

Rockingham Parks and Recreation

taking soccer signups

The Rockingham Parks and Recreation will accept soccer league registrations until Aug. 17.

To be eligible to participate, a child must be at least four-years-old and not turn 16 on or before Aug. 1.

For city residents, the cost is $20 plus $6 if not currently insured by Parks and Recreation. For non-city residents, the cost is $30 plus $6 if not currently insured by Parks and Recreation.

Hamlet accepting soccer registrations

The City of Hamlet is accepting soccer applications for the 2009 season. The cost is $30 per child and registration will continue until Aug. 7.

Late registration will be from Aug. 10-14 with an addition $10 late fee.

The leagues will be broken down to 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15-year-old age groups. Participants will be placed in a league based on their age as of April 30.

FirstHealth to offer summer camps

FirstHealth will offer a Fitness / Sport Camp class will be held for children ages 8-12 on July 27-31 and Aug. 10-14. the cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.
