The Rockingham 11-12-year-old All-star team used a big first inning to advance to the winner's bracket of the Bronco region tournament at Civitan Park.

Rockingham jumped out to a 9-0 lead and went on to defeat Mallard Creek 20-10 in six innings in a game that ended in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Rockingham will play Great Neck (Va.) at Civitan Park today at 4 p.m.

Cross Holfert led Rockingham at the plate by going 3-for-4, while John Taylor slugged a two-run home run in the second inning and had three runs batted in. Ethan Baucom went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs, while Cody Leviner was 2-for-4 with a double. Joe Butler went 2-for-4.

Leviner pitched two scoreless innings and collected five strike outs. Cody Coburn gave up three runs, four hits, issued two walks and

collected four strike outs in three innings of work.

Will Monti paced Mallard Creek by going 2-for-4 with a double, while Grayson Wassweiler was 1-for-2 with two runs driven in. Mallard Creek will play the loser of the Rockingham/Great Neck contest at 5 p.m.

Wednesday.

In the first game, Chesterfield (Va.) outslugged Jamestown 16-14 to play Pittsylvania County (Va.) today at 2 p.m.

Due to lightning in the area, the game was delayed twice and went four hours and 19 minutes long. There was an offensive explosion as both teams combined to slug eight home runs in the game.

Jamestown's loss spoiled a big outing from Jake Moebius, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with three home runs and six runs batted in.

Ben Fischer was 3-for-4 with a home run and five runs driven in.

Adam Bondurant led Chesterfield's onslaught by going 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in, while Casey Howell went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs driven in. Michael McCullough was 2-for-4 with a home run and a RBI, Ian Mayes went 1-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Nathan Eaton recorded six strikeouts in four innings of work to earn the victory on the mound for Chesterfield.
