Rain forced two area teams to wait another day to begin its post-season tournaments.

The 13-14-year-old Pony Sectional Tournament at Civitan Park will begin today at 5 p.m. when Archdale battles Asheboro followed by Rockingham against Garner.

According to tournament director Dale Faircloth, he waited until the last minute before making the decision to call off the games.

“The sun came out around 4:30 p.m. and it got really hot, if it had been anywhere else we would have played,” Faircloth said. “There were spots of grass where water was standing.”

Faircloth added the tournament has to be completed before next week because of teams advancing to the next round in Davidson on Monday.

“Our cutoff is Sunday, then we can’t play anymore,” Faircloth said. “There is a 40 percent change of rain Thursday and Friday, so we are going to do anything we can to get the games in. We will double up and play in the morning if we have to.”

Like the 13-14-year-old squads, the 9-10-year-old Rockingham All-Star team was forced to wait until today to open its sectional tournament play. The Rockingham team will battle Jamestown at 5:30 p.m. in Archdale. The other teams in the tournament are: Garner, Archdale and Southwest Randolph.
