Medicaid is abused

While watching an afternoon judge show on TV this week, I was amazed at a young lady who was suing an eyewear place for $2,100 for designer sunglasses.

As the judge progressed through the case it seemed this girl had some really bad spending habits. She was buying designer sunglasses at $400 a pair. As the judge read through her statement she questioned the girl on her insurance that was suppose to pay for the eye exam ,that she was also suing for.

It turns out that the girl had gone to an eye clinic that accepted Medicaid, and she proudly displayed her Medicaid card to the judge, saying your honor I have insurance right here.

The judge, totally amazed said let me get this straight, you bought $400 non-prescription sun glasses with Medicaid? The reply was yes, of course. We don’t need health care reform, we simply need to stop the theft and waste and misuse of our current system when you go to a doctor these days.

I can assure you he will make three or four referrals to other doctors as long as he knows you have a Medicaid card. Fifty percent of the testing is simply to send more Medicaid money to a buddy or pal, when testing is not really needed. If we only stop the waste and stop handing out Medicaid cards to those who could get off their backside and take care of themselves, we would save billions.

I grew up in a time of not what you had, but how you managed it. Let’s get back to the basics and stop depending on the government to solve our every small problems that God gave us the brains to do for ourselves.

You know that the National Debt would be cleared in 10 years if we stopped paying for Welfare and Medicaid?

What are we telling people if we pay for their kids and all their healthcare, and we continually support people, pay for their housing, electricity, food, clothing, etc.

They, they get to have luxury items, clothing, etc.

I'm sorry, but that's kind of ridiculous. No one should be able to sit around, leech off of the government and not contribute.

I mean, even in a socialist society, the whole point of it is so that everyone reaps the benefits because EVERYONE contributes.

I'm wondering how "anonymous" got into my computer. I can't post half the time and the other half, my messages end up under the name of 'anonymous'

To whom it may concern.

I have a life! why don't you tell us who you really are? I always list my name. Hhowever it, more often than not, it appears under 'anonymous’

I've alerted RCDJ a couple of times. I've had my computer re-installed and it did not stop it. Evidently, it isn't my computer.

Mikey_likey,

I will look into the quality of the cheese and get back to you on that,as for the other you are on your own. please understand I dont label myself as a rep or a lib, I am an american. it is really funny how people reacted to my post,I dont pretend to have all the answers as the problems seem to come faster than the solutions. My post was simply to state that if we start at a local level, policing the system and stopping the fraud and waste. If the people who truly need the services that tax payers provide,I have no problem with that at all. The old and needy who I have seen during winter months pumping kero at the Exxon could surely use some of the food stamps that are sold each month for 50 cents on the dollar,to turn them into cash for booze and drugs. The spending is not the problem, the waste and fraud is. It is common knowledge if you know someone inside, it doesnt matter how much you have ,you can still get a handout inside the social services dept. If we only stop the misuse of the funds designed to help the truly needy,we would only need to reform that issue.I guess the easy way is to stick my head in the sand and pretend that this is not happening right here in our county, but wake up,it is. It will take a unity of voices to stand up and demand accountability from those in charge, our lives are not up to the goverment to take care of, it is up to us, we the people. If you grew up in this county as I did 40 years ago you know there was no social services,no handouts and though we had hard times we made do with what we had, this was my only point here. It is all up to us,not the goverment. They have enough problems of their own.If you need furture proof read the story about the housing authority and we have only knocked the tip off that iceburg. thank god for a great police chief who was not afraid to confront and ask questions. If more of our officals would take that stand a lot more would be discovered. Mike ,I wish you the best of everything in your life I am sure you have earned it.

On the topic of universal heath care, this is what the American people and I want: Single payer as an option to all American regardless of how much money you make or don't make. This way everyone has the option not just the low incomers. Just like out basic needs and right I want the police and FD to show up when needed. Second, I don't want the rich to pay for the health care. Obama's new health plan sound great but I don't like were the money coming from. I don't think a 50% tax for people who make over $250,000 in right. If you make that kinda money you must have worked your butt off for it so you should be able to keep it. People are suggesting an internet sales tax which would pay for Universal Health care.

The price of heath insurance raised three times of inflation. Now that's not right! $500/month insurance for a family of 4 and you go to the doctor 3 times a year.

Mikey, there is another way...take a gun to Mr. Hall or pick his pockets. As I said (or meant to say) robbing through government or with a gun/ both are means by which some use to steal the earnings of another.

Hey Mike, I was just thinking of you when I used my card today to get some contraception and cheese. Since you pay my bills I want a raise. The cheese really sucks and the contraception are very bad quality. Since your my daddy now I want you to pay more taxes. Your not paying enough.

I would vote for Mr. Hall in a minute. The problem is that people still keep voting in these welfare supporting Democrats who are the problem. They know that as long as they keep the Medicaid carrot dangling in front of the horse that the horse will keep working the voting booths for them.

This county would not want someone who thinks like Mr. Hall,I am sorry to say. People around here want to breed, live on the system and lay in bed all day.

"There are two ways some indivicuals rob American citizens - One is with a gun - another through the government. Both is taking something that belongs to another and that is stealing."

Yes, I was serious. If Mr. Hall is so worried about it, how about he try to be part of the solution rather than hanging out on the sofa watching judge shows all afternoon and just complaining and griping. Maybe he should run for office or something. He should practice what he preaches and "get off his backside." Step away from the television.

I am sorry Packswain,I guess you are protecting your right to suck off the goverment and want no one to dare question your handout. I am also sure you are one of the few who doesnt have a t v to watch ,dont let your jealousy eat you away. Unlike you I do have a life and dont need to find flaw in what others do. The next time you use your medicaid card think of me, I am paying your bills ok?

Is "packswim" serious?? Instead of commenting on the idiot who used medicaid for DESIGNER non-prescription sunglasses, you told Mr. Hall to get a real life? "Packswim" you need to wake up and pay attention. It may have been television BUT it happens every single day in every single town in America. I can't afford designer sunglasses b/c I actually have to pay for my own insurance out of my own paycheck that I receive from doing a real JOB in the real world. Working Americans should be upset and outraged at how many people are taking advantage of the Medicade system b/c we are the ones paying for it. Mr. Hall simply used the show as an example that many Richmond County residents could relate to and understand. SHEESH!!!
