Richmond County Board of Commissioners meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday and may appoint a new county manager.

County Manager Jim Haynes will retire July 31.

Rick Sago, Richmond County director of development, was recently named “deputy manager” in addition to his duties with development.

Commissioners have said nothing publicly about who they might select, although at their budget retreat this year, Sago was involved in a closed session concerning a personnel matter for some time.

Also on the agenda:

n A public hearing will be held on the Rural Operating Assistance Program application to be submitted to the N. C. Department of Transportation.

n A public hearing will be held on an amendment to the Richmond County Zoning Ordinance on the use of non-conforming buildings in a residential area.

n Commissioners will be asked to set a public hearing date on property Thurman Britt wants rezoned in Cordova from Rural Residential to Light Industrial.

n Commissioners will be asked to allow the Cordova Fire Department to expand to a six-mile insurance district, which has been approved by the N.C. Department of Insurance.

n Commissioners will be asked to award a $799,285 contract bid to Hudson Paving of Rockingham for rehabilitation of the Richmond County Airport runway.

n Commissioners will be asked to approve a change order for the new judicial center in the amount of $15,860. This will leave $162,089.49 in the contingency fund for the project. The completion date is still set for Jan. 2, 2010.

n Commissioners will consider transferring Hoffman School property to the Town of Hoffman.

n Commissioners will consider a request to remove Lovin Road from the state maintenance system and add Dublin Court in the Parish Glen Subdivision.

Since you think it's so simple to bring jobs into this rural county, why don't you apply for the job and show us how it's done. :)

First I would like to say Good-bye to Jim. I hope he has an enjoyable retirement. I pray we get someone in his position, and I realize this may not be his job, TO BRING JOBS INTO THIS COUNTY!!!!! Sorry, a little frustrated there! Is is Rick Sago's job? If so, please get him out of that seat ASAP! Is it true, the poorer we stay, the more federal money this county gets? If so, that's a shame to keep this county poor and who pocket is that money going into? If I could get just a few of these questions answered, I would feel, well, at least I would know something!!
