Excellent news regarding the Hamlet Historical Museum. Each time I walk into that beautiful Victorian jewel of a building it is as if I’m walking in my grandfather’s and uncle’s steps. As well as my 89-year-old mother’s steps as a 4-year-old child in 1924 during train trips through Hamlet with my grandfather.

She has very vivid memories of the lovely Hamlet train station and their special dinners together at the glorious Seaboard Hotel. Oh Hamlet in its heyday.

It’s as if I’m walking in my steps too, as a small child during many train trips I enjoyed from Virginia to Hamlet with my mother. And sometimes with just my grandfather and I.

What a treat those trips were. I’m confident that Synergy Design Group will do the museum and the City of Hamlet justice in creating captivating and educational exhibits. It will only prove to be money well spent. My sincerest thanks to City Manager Marchell Adams David, Mayor Jeff Smart and to the agreeing council members for having the vision and passing the budget to make it possible.

I sincerely believe if both my grandfather, H.F. Monroe Sr., and my uncle, H.F. Monroe Jr., were alive today they would be very pleased with the news too. And for my mother and myself, it’s a dream come true.
