Hamlet man faces burglary, rape charges

Hamlet police said a man broke into a house on Louis Breeden Boulevard, Hamlet, on April 25, turned off the power to the house, entered the house and sexually assaulted a woman while her two small children were at home.

Capt. Bob Steele, Hamlet Police Department, said he arrested Michael Wayne Hutchison, 40, Raleigh Street, Hamlet, in connection with the incident and charged him with first-degree burglary and second-degree sexual offense.

His bond was set at $25,000.

In another incident, Stephanie Anna Perry, 24, Hylan Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery. She was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.

Incidents reported to Hamlet police include:

n On Thomas Street. Hamlet, someone broke into a house causing $350 damage to a door.

n In a break-in attempt on a vehicle parked on Entwistle Street, Hamlet, someone did $50 damage to it.

n A bird bath valued at $150 was stolen from a house on Cherry Street, Hamlet.

n Scratches by someone caused $700 damage to a vehicle parked on Seaboard Street, Hamlet.

n A Hamlet woman said her son bought a $100 boat advertised in a magazine and discovered when she tried to register it that it had been stolen.

n A cooking grill valued at $50 was stolen from a house on Columbia Avenue, Hamlet.

n Someone broke into a residence on Thomas Street, Hamlet, causing $350 damage to a door and ransacked the apartment.

n On Lackey Street, Hamlet, someone broke into a house and stole a television set valued at $459 and $400 worth of electronic game equipment.

n CD player equipment valued at $200 was stolen from a vehicle on East Spring Street, Hamlet.

n At a community building on East Spring Street, Hamlet, someone did $500 damage to windows of a vehicle and stole $200 worth of equipment from it.

n During a fight in a house on Clay Street, Hamlet, someone did $50 damage to a window.

n An 18-year-old man said while he was in his vehicle on Fieldcrest Lane, Hamlet, a suspect rode by in another vehicle and fired a weapon at him.
