Deputies arrest five with illegal drugs

Five people have been arrested in four cases by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on charges they have been involved with illegal drugs, Capt. J. K. Glidewell said.

Deputies seized 219.9 grams of marijuana after stopping a car which was speeding.

Two men were arrested.

Harvey Elon Jones, 36, Dillon, S.C., was arrested on felony charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances. Bond was set at $10,000.

The sheriff’s reports lists his employment as at the federal prison in Bennettsville, S.C.

Daniel B. B. Jones III, 23, Dillon, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $10,000.

The arresting deputy said there were two small children in the back seat unsecured at the time he stopped the car.

During his investigation, the deputy found the marijuana in a shoe box in the trunk.

Johnny Richard Gerald Sr., 66, Ford Hill Road, Rockingham, was arrested on felony charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, and maintaining a place for controlled substances; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $500.

Deputies seized four rocks of crack cocaine and two crack pipes.

Billy Ray Armstrong, 53, Pine Street, Ellerbe, was arrested on felony charges of manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a place for controlled substances.

His bond was set at $2,500.

Deputies said 11 marijuana plants were seized from the back porch of Armstrong’s residence.

Arian Troy McDaniel, 19, Eddies Lane, Hamlet, was arrested on a felony charge of manufacturing marijuana. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

During the arrest, deputies of the Sheriff’s Vice/Narcotics Unit seized seven marijuana plants growing in McDaniel’s back yard.

In another case, Charles Ray Cobbler Jr., 30, Yates Street, Rockingham, was arrested on two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense, all felony charges.

His bond was set at $25,000.

He was charged with the theft of a $325 weed cutter from a residence on N.C. 177 North, Hamlet, which was pawned for $30.

He was also charged with the theft of $50 floor lamp heater from a house on Blewett Avenue, Rockingham, which was pawned for $30.

Other incidents reported to the sheriff’s office include:

n A Clarksburg, West Va., man told deputies that someone embezzled $500,000 from a business he owns in Richmond County.

n Someone did $200 damage to windows of a house on Wiregrass Road, Rockingham.

n At a house on U.S. 74 West, Rockingham, someone stole $100 worth of checks and $100.

n Coins valued at $650 were stolen from a house on Pecan Road, Cordova.

n Jewelry valued at $3,670 was stolen from a house on Central Avenue, Rockingham.

n A victim was assaulted at a residence on Ledbetter Road, Rockingham, and robbed of $289 worth of personal property.

n Four tires and rims valued at $1,500 were stolen from a house on Airport Road, Rockingham.

n A boat valued at $1,600 was stolen from a house on Church Street, Cordova.

n Someone did $100 damage to a vehicle parked at a park in East Rockingham.

n A 30-year-old man told deputies that a suspect fired a firearm at him while at a house on Snake Hill Road, Rockingham.

n A 29-year-old woman told deputies a suspect threw her to the ground at a house on Collins Church Road, Rockingham, threatened her, and tried to strangle her.

n At a house on Gus Wall Road, Rockingham, someone did $1,000 damage by scratching a vehicle.

n At a residential storage building on N.C. 381 South, Hamlet, a $150 rifle was among $4,290 worth of property stolen.

n Along the roadway on Ellerbe Road, Rockingham, a victim was assaulted and robbed of $57 worth of property.

n While parked at a business on Earl Franklin Drive, Dobbins Heights, a vehicle was damaged when someone dented it with a fist.

n At a church on Ledbetter Street, Cordova, someone stole $10,000.

n Someone did $300 damage to a vehicle parked at a business on U.S. 220 North, Rockingham.

n While parked on Seaboard Street, Hoffman, someone did $600 damage to a motor grader.

n At a vacant house on Hunt Street, Rockingham, someone did $300 damage to windows.

n Someone did $1,325 damage to a vehicle parked at a residence on Rummage Packhouse Road, Norman.

n Tools and a tool box value at $800 were stolen from a residence on Watkins Street, Rockingham.

n A phone valued at $100 was stolen from a purse at a park in East Rockingham.

n On Will Lane, Ellerbe, someone stole a vehicle valued at $1,500.

n A bird cage valued at $250 was stolen from a house on Ridgeview Drive, Hamlet.

n At a house on Derby Road between Derby and Hoffman, someone broke in and stole $4,770 worth of property.

n At a house on Anita Lane, Ellerbe, someone did $100 damage to a door and stole $150 worth of property.

n A 21-year-old woman told deputies a suspect grabbed her around her neck and choked her at a house at Logan Park, Rockingham.

n A lawn mower valued at $100 was stolen from a house on Loren Circle, Cordova.

n An unknown amount of damage was done to windows and cabinets by someone at a house on Loch Haven Road, Rockingham.

n A cell phone valued at $599 was stolen from a woman at a business on Battley Dairy Road, Rockingham.

n Someone did $300 damage to a door at a house on Southwood Drive, Rockingham.

Information on criminal activity may be reported anonymously to Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 997-5454. When leading to arrests, rewards mat be offered for such information.

n Arrests reports published in the Richmond County Daily Journal are copied from local law enforcement records.
