Betty M. Spencer, 83, of Hamlet, passed away on May 31, 2009 at Somerset Court. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hogan M. Spencer and son, John A. Quick, great-granddaughter Teryn Lynch and great-grandson J.T. Heaton.

Betty was born in Marlboro County to the late Colin Odom and Lula Patterson Odom. Betty was employed by the following companies while living in Hamlet, Hamlet Toy Store, Johnson’s Clothing Store and the North Carolina Motor Speedway.

Betty was a member of Marston Baptist Church and remained a long time active member of Calvary Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet on Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. with services immediately following. Rev. Scott Conner will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.

Surviving are her children, Joyce Hasty and husband Jim, of Red Springs, Utha Spencer of Holly Springs, Margaret Vickers and husband Dan of Georgia and a son, Larry Spencer and wife Theresa of Ohio and daughter-in-law, Nancy Quick of Hamlet, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 406 McDonald Ave., Hamlet, NC 28345, and Hamlet Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1229 Hamlet, NC 28345.

The children would like to thank Community Hospice and Somerset Court for the love and extended care that was given to their mother during her illness.
