Fatal house fire under investigation

Rockingham police are continuing to investigate the circumstances behind a fire in which a Rockingham man died Friday.

Derrick Allen Oliver, 67, of 1030 Pineridge Drive, Rockingham, died following a fire in his apartment which originated in a bedroom, police said.

Damage to the apartment was estimated at $10,000.

Oliver was pulled from the smoke-filled apartment after being found on the floor, police said.

He was given CPR on the scene beginning with a police officer until emergency personnel arrived, police said. He was pronounced dead at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

A private funeral service was held.

Arrests by Rockingham police include:

n Adriane Ellerbe, 23, Rockingham Road, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of larceny.

n Angela Nicholson, 31, Earl Franklin Street, Rockingham, was arrested on warrants for six counts of failure to appear in court. Bond was set at $7,000.

n Karen Lynn Scott, 49, Shannon Drive, Rockingham, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of injury to personal property and assault with a deadly weapon. Scott was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.

n Lucas Lockhart, 19, High Point, was issued a citation on a charge of simple possession of marijuana.

n Eddie Bernard Dougas Jr., 20, Eastside Drive, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving while license revoked. Bond was set at $300.

Incidents reported to Rockingham police include:

n A 27-year-old woman told police a suspect punched her in the face at a residence on Armstead Street, Rockingham.

n A woman attempting to get a utility service at her apartment on Cauthen Drive, Rockingham, told police that someone had used her identity to get such service in the past and left a $236 bill unpaid in her name.

n Tobacco products valued at $182.81 were stolen from a store on East Broad Avenue, Rockingham.

n A 22-year-old victim who told police he was assaulted by a suspect with a baseball at a house on East Washington Street, Rockingham, and was treated at a hospital for his injuries.
