Two Richmond County 5-year-olds took home brand new bicycles recently as winners of a Richmond County Partnership for Children poster contest.

The artwork of Kayla Strickland, daughter of Holly and Jeff Strickland, and Nicholas Bailey, son of Dorrell and Nicole Bailey, was selected from almost 100 entries. The annual contest was held in conjunction with the Week of the Young Child, a national celebration to recognize the needs of young children and to thank educators and others involved in building better futures for all children.

The winning posters will be framed and hung in the Partnership’s office at 315 S. Lawrence St.

All Richmond County children 4 to 6 years old could participate by drawing a picture that illustrated the theme “Children Are Our Future.”

Richmond County Partnership for Children is a non-profit organization that distributes legislature-allocated funds in Richmond County. The Partnership collaborates with local agencies to fund and promote programs that enhance the health, education and quality of life for children birth to age 5 and their families.

The Partnership is part of North Carolina’s Smart Start network, an early childhood initiative designed to ensure that young children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.
