Robert David James, 44, Boyd Lake Road, Hamlet, was arrested by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday on felony charges of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon, Capt. J. K. Glidewell said.

His bond was set at $100,000. His appearance in Richmond County District Court is set for June 11.

At 11:40 p.m. May 15, deputies were called to James’ house where they found Jeremy Kyle Parker, 23, of Boyd Lake Road.

He was lying in the doorway of James’ house. He was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for treatment. Parker died of his wounds.

Parker had been shot twice with bullets from a Marlin .22-caliber rifle.

Glidewell said James admitted shooting Parker to protect himself from Parker. James told deputies the shooting occurred over an argument about money.

Glidewell said James told deputies that during the argument, he fell back and the gun went off twice.

The case was reviewed by the 20A District Attorney’s Office before the charges were made.

I'm so glad an arrest has been made in the shooting of Jeremy Parker. But which is it? He shot him to protect his self from Parker, or he fell and the gun accidently went off? Not once, but twice! I do know for a fact that he was not shot in the front of the body! James is a 44 year old man and Parker was 23. He has sons Jeremy's age! If they ask him to borrow money, is he going to shoot them too? I'd also like to thank The Daily Journal for bringing attention to this case with the piece they did on Jeremy's dad. And thanks for the sheriff's dept for finaly making an arrest. And I hope this investigation is continuing, because it sounds like more that manslaughter to me!
