My grandson wants to be a firefighter and he becomes so excited when he sees your fire trucks or firefighters in action with sirens blasting!
In 1964 in Denver, Colorado, I had my first experience with a firefighter. While playing hide and seek with friends, my younger sister Mary lit a candle to see as they were hiding in a dark garage. Mary was 4-years-old, and dropped the candle near some papers, and poof! my neighbor’s garage was on fire! Mary ran home to tell mother and the fire department came and put the fire out. Mary was so scared, but the kindest fireman picked up my sister and sat her on his lap and gave us all a lecture about the danger of fires.
The next year I climbed the tallest tree in our neighborhood in Denver and froze at the top of that tree. All day my mother tried everything to get me down. She was pregnant with my brother Everett. Mother gave up and called the fire department to help. The huge ladder went up that tree and a big fireman wrapped his arms around me and carried me down! Whenever I see a fireman I always remember the rescue.
We need you all to stop acting like 2-year-olds throwing a tantrum just because they want to join a union. I salute each and every firefighter. I have tried to call Hamlet Fire Department several years ago and they were wonderful, and that’s what we care about, saving our homes and lives.
Please, I stand behind those firefighters and every firefighter in the United States.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU HONESTLY DO FOR A LIVING? It's obvious you don't know the statistics of the fatalities of police officers & fireman!!! Do your research before you just call another human being a FOOL!! The judge will ultimately be the one to determine in this case, exactly who (you describe as) the FOOLS were and weren't!! Oh, by the way, this is definetly not HOLLYWOOD but very much REALITY!!Have a bless evening & may GOD bless, yes even you!!
I agree with you that there are jobs that are more dangerous than my husbands & I don't think I said my husband lays his life on the line daily, but when he does IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!! WOULD YOU DO WHAT HE DOES, WITH THE COMPASSION THAT HE HAS??? I hardly doubt it, I wouldn't! I am a nurse & I help save lives also & I to am VERY COMPASSIONATE about my patients care!! Also, I to am a city tax payer & this union will affect me personally & financially also! I further do not agree with your comment that the MAJORITY of the public doesn't support THESE FIREMAN!!! (NOT FOOLS AS YOU DESCRIBED THEM) These fireman are the same dedicated fireman today as they they were 16 plus years ago when they each, individually took the oath for their job& they have NOT attempted to undermine the city or their employer in no way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you personally spoke with any of the fireman or their families & know what all is REALLY going on? It is a shame that the city has ALLOWED what has already happened to happen! I hardly doubt the upper hand citizens in this county would pull or cut burning bodies out of cars or go into a burning building for what these guys make!! Furthermore, I fully support ALL police, probation, jailers, deputies, troopers, etc. & thank each of them for what they do for OUR COMMUNITY! Thanks again and honestly I will keep you in my prayers also!!
Union or no union, these men deserve our support and they deserve to be treated well by the city they serve.
I agree with you 100%. You would think that people think that because the fireman joined a union to get the pay they deserve, that they are bad people. They are still the same fireman, who save homes & lives everyday. My husband lays his life on the line all the time. My only prayer is that if anything happens to him, it will be because he is doing something he loves, saving homes or lives not someone going postal and having a mass casualty. Please keep ALL the employees in the City of Rham in your prayers! Again, Thanks!
