Soldiers of Echo Company, 1/120th Combined Arms Battalion, Hamlet, are beginning to move from staging in Kuwait into Iraq.
First Sgt. Brian Webb said Tuesday he was at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.
“We have pushed some troops forward into Iraq with the rest of us to follow in a couple of days.” he said.
“Our conditions in Iraq should be a lot better than last time,” Webb said, and he hopes to be able to keep people in Richmond County informed of their activities.
“Please tell all our supporters that we are all doing well and appreciate their thoughts and prayers,” he said.
A deployment ceremony was held in Fayetteville April 14 for the entire 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, N.C. Army National Guard, of which the 1/120th is a unit. There are about 4,000 troops in all associated with the 30th.
Some of the Co. E troops had not returned from training in time to attend the ceremony.
Troops were honored with a deployment ceremony for Co. E in November 2008 before they left in December for training at several camps across the United States.
In all, they will be on active federal duty for 16 months.
Families of troops are supported at home through a Family Readiness Group.
