Taking a look at our hypocrisy

With the recent media coverage of the “torture memos,” the public can again witness the stunning hypocrisy of the American left on display. Their arguments go something like this:

It is an outrage… a gross moral injustice for this country to condone “waterboarding,” – an aggressive interrogation technique that simulates drowning - against an avowed, murderous enemy used to extract intelligence that could save thousands of American lives - even though many of our own servicemen have been subjected to this same technique as part of their normal training.

But on the other hand… it is perfectly acceptable to snuff out the lives of millions of unborn innocents, even if it requires late-term procedures such as the brutal and ghastly practices of partial-birth abortion and infanticide.

It is a despicable crime, a national affront, for lawyers to draft exhaustively-researched legal opinions supporting specific interrogation methods to be used against our deadly enemies to elicit valuable intelligence during wartime. These lawyers – and the officials who acted on these legal opinions should be investigated, tried and punished to the fullest extent of the law. So what if they acted in good faith, carefully and thoughtfully defining techniques and limits that would preserve this nation’s core values while protecting the lives and liberties of American citizens?

But…on the other hand, we should grant our enemies all legal rights and protections – protections to which they are not entitled under our Constitution or international law – foreign enemies who openly vow to murder our children and grandchildren – and have already done so on an unprecedented scale.

When America’s political leadership is dominated by a party with a moral compass this broken – our decent and free nation, “the last, great hope of mankind” - is indeed in great peril.

All hands on deck…

Doug Carter

reaganneo-con, there were 21,000 more American troops killed in Vietnam after Nixon took office. He invaded Cambodia and Laos. But the anti-war movement became to big for him to ignore and he was up to his ears in Watergate.

He pulled out of Vietnam and left them to the murderers that we had fought and died to defeat.

You can buy that Republican slop, it is all yours.

Bonnie, I noticed that you used that old Karl Rove Playbook ploy. Using percentages to make a point.

What is that, Bonnie, 37.37% of $10,000.00 in Blue States and 19.45% of $100,000.00 in Red States? That is the same way that Republicans argue that the wealthy pay more taxes. They pay a lower percentage on millions of dollar more in pay. And the middle class pay a higher percentage on less money. The wealthy pay their entire SSI tax in the first month and the average worker works all year and never pays the maximum. The logic that supports that system blows my mind. Take the Cap off SSI Earnings. Problem solved.

Besides when it comes to charity...we are not Red States, or Blue States, we are the United States. Is your Governor going to promote secession like the Republican nut case in Texas?

reagonneo-con, you are wrong. The Republicans have never done anything to help the working people of this nation. And the only thing they want to do is provide more wealth for the already wealthy. And if you support that idea, and you are not wealthy yourself, then you are a dunce.

The free market system that you so proudly advocate has become a method of corruption for those at the top.

And you can spout, along with Bonnie Wheeler, the lies that come off Fox Foney News, but you never, ever see the Republicans doing anything for those less fortunate except when there is a television camera around.

The last response to snail mail.

If you are a student, you need to inform your parents of the propoganda that you may be getting in the schools

One thing you need to know - you never take the words of a politician. You must check him out throughly. They never tell the truth. I've proven that the policies of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd is the reason for the failure of the financial institutions and I have even allowed you to see and hear them as they blocked every effort of Republicans to investigate which would have avoided this tragedy.

I would appreciate very much if, the next letter you send that you would supply all information and not just one side of it.

It would help you as well.

I repeat again, the letter that I wrote two years ago on crime stated that black on black crimes exceeded black on white and white on black. You didn't see or acknowledge the response I sent correcting him. It was in the next edition of the RCDJ

Ron, I know you would like to emphasize your opinon but let's don't exaggerate. It has been proven that Republicans give more to Charity than Democrats. Check it out.

Average Red State Generosity Index Score = 35.37, Average Blue State Generosity Index Score = 19.45. Republicans give almost twice as much.

to Dana: Atheists in Wisconsin have brought the law suit against National Day of Prayer and I'm sure that Obama does not want to be lumped with atheists. However, one wonders why he refuses to follow the practice of presidents since Truman, declaring that we are "One Nation Under God" by participating from our nation's capitol in the National Day of Prayer.

I'm surprised that more people are not questioning this. I know he isn't too busy to recognize God since he isn't to busy to throw his wed. nite parties. This is much more important.

Ron - you are delusional. You must be picking up your history from the backs of cereal boxes. We "lost" Vietnam because LBJ refused to win - it was the Democratic Congress that cut funding to South Vietnam that led to the Communists' murderous takeover of south Vietnam and Cambodia. Ever heard of "the killing fields", Ron?

You say the liberals help the poor, huh? All you've done with 40 years of welfare spending is create a permanent, dependent underclass at the same poverty levels as they were 8 trillion dollars ago! Destroying one's self-esteem by making them a ward of the state helps no one.

"You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred." (Presbyterian minister William J.H. Boetcker)

You care not for the "poor and downtrodden" that you profess to love. If you did, you would support trying some different policies that may actually help these people. You would quit demonizing the very system of free market capitalism that has done more for more individuals than any economic system in human history.

"At it's greatest when led by liberals?" gosh, even you can't possibly believe that. You mean the Carter years with double-digit inflation and interest rates, Communism on the march around the globe, and our citizens held hostage for 455 days by a third world autocrat?

And Ron - America is already the greatest nation the world has every known - the problem is you liberals are trying to destroy all that...

reaganneo-con, sorry but you are mistaken. This country has always had a liberal leaning. We care about each other, we help the poor, we shed tears when someone else suffers a loss. If you are a conservative you do not have those traits. You look down your nose and consider those who are poor or suffering as being stupid and/or lazy or both.

If you look through the history of this country it has been at its greatest when it was led by liberals. You can not point to one thing in American history that was accomplished by the conservatives to the benefit of the average everyday working person in this country. Liberals led this country through two world wars, Korea, and Vietnam. We lost Vietnam under a conservative Republican, and we invaded and occupied a sovereign nation called Iraq, under a conservative Republican.

I am Proud to be a Liberal. At least I know that I am no better than the next working stiff that stands shoulder to shoulder with me while we continue to build America into the greatest nation the world has ever known.

Bonnie, while I happen to think Bush's recognition of National Prayer Day at the White House was one of the few admirable things he did, I also realize Obama is working on behalf of Christians as well.

What you failed to mention is how Obama has asked a judge is Wisconson to dismiss a case seeking to end the day altogether. According the the Associated Press, "The Obama administration has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which claims the day violates the separation of church and state."

In addition, the article states "Freedom From Religion Foundation Co-Director Annie Laurie Gaylor welcomed Obama's more subdued observance but said she has been shocked by his administration's strong defense of the day in court."

Do I think Obama should continue the tradition, yes! Do I understand why he's not, Yes! Maybe I understand some of this a little better because I went through a phase of my life where I lost confidence in Christianity due to a particular denomination. This is the very reason why I support separation of church and state, because I don't want to be forced to conform to the doctrine of any particular denomination. Would you like to be forced to pray Catholic prayers or Methodist prayers, or Baptist prayers? Would you like to be forced to believe an extreme doctrine which isn't consistent with your beliefs of the Bible and Christ?

All I'm saying is the line between separation of church and state is a fine line to walk, but it must be done in order for us to continue to worship God as we so choose.

Response to the snail-mail: Ok, now I have read page 1. I will take this in segments.

The letter that you are referring to stated that there is "more black on black crime than white on black" which is true. No one straightened me out on that one because the respondent incorrectly asserted that I wrote there was more black on white crime than black on black. I straightened him out. That was a year or two ago.

I see Barney Frank written quite a bit on each page. I haven't read it but Barney Frank is a big part of the recent problesm So I don't take him seriously. Everything he has done and said during the years has been wrong. He fought

the Republicans when they tried to investigate Fannie and Freddie, calling it racist. Had he, Christ Dod and other Democrats had not done this, the problem we are now having would not exist.

This may take awhile but I will eventually respond to all.

I have just found another letter(book) in my mail box from someone whom I assume is from RC.

If you are posting here, my mesaage to you is that I promise to read the letter as soon as I have the time and I will respond through the forum, since no address was included

I respect your opinion although I will probably disagree with it.

Glancing at one of the sentences I gathered you have an anathema to the long practiced rule of one taking responsibility for his actions and that responsiblity should be forced on others.

I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Dana, this is the first president who has denied the fact that we "should acknowledge Him [God] in all things." Obama could have used today as the day to remind our entire nation that God is ruler and we are "One Nation Under God"

He could have joined the entire nation in praying God's blessings on America. He is setting a bad example already.

Bonnie,

You are missing a very HUGE point..... THE FREEDOM we have to have a national day of prayer is something not all people have. In fact, in some parts of the world, Christians are still killed for being CHRISTIAN!

In our great nation, we have the freedom to worship God when and how we want to. We are not forced to be a certain denomination, nor are we forced to worship at all. Say what you will, but that freedom is a huge thing. I'll be thanking God for that freedom today.... and everyday... as I'll continue to pray for our leaders!

Ron, did it ever occur to you that we cannot stop evil in the world but I don't want to be guilty being a part of it. That does not give us the right to murder the innocent. I'm a part of every law that is passed.

And My purpose was defeated by a great number of people who lacked knowledge.

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee. . . " Hosea 4:6.

Because of the lack of knowledge, the good people of Germany were defeated by the majority and Hitler became ruler.

Ron, you are entitled to your opinion, even if its' wrong.

Today is National Prayer Day-Services will be held all over Ameria and the God of our nation well be acknowledged everywher, except in our nation's Capitol.

We would never want to offend Budha, alllah, Islam, the sun or moon worshipers by continuing the idea that our nation is "One Nation Under God" which seems to be an embarrassment to our new President.

Goth - Little sensitive, aren't you? The comparison is between the moral underpinning and the moral reasoning underlying the two issues. Most liberals consider it morally acceptable to abort unborn children (and these methods of ending the lives of these children certainly qualify as torture); these same liberals shriek in outrage at placing caterpillars in a terrorists' cells or slapping these brutal murderers around a little IN ORDER TO SAVE THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT LIVES. Liberals' hypocrisy in these instances would be laughable if the issues weren't so serious. It is very easy in our current perceived 'safe' environment (no attacks on the homeland in almost 8 years), to self-righteously criticize the previous administration's tactics to try to keep Americans safe.

Dana - 60% of the country consider themselves conservative. You are confusing Bonnie and I with Republicans. The American people want conservative solutions to today's problems. No one hates the current administration - I know it fits the media's template for you to think that, but it is simply not true. What we abhor is the same, failed, stupid liberal policies of the last 40 years that have done so much to damage this country. And if you're honest with yourself - it's very easy to see which side the "hate" is coming from...

If anyone is anti-American, Bonnie, it is certainly you. You only see with your Republican blinders on. You have set yourself up as judge and jury to everyone who disagrees with your twisted philosophy about life in America.

It makes no difference to you that the bill he voted against removed the opportunitie the baby had to survive. All you care about is that it was an anti-abortion bill that would have made some lawyers very rich as they prosecuted lawsuits against the doctors who performed the abortion.

They will never outlaw abortion in America. They will never make it illegal for a woman to choose what she does with her body. Why is it so difficult for you to understand and get it through your thick head that passing laws outlawing abortion is not going to stop or reduce the number of abortions. The only way to reduce the number of abortions is by preventing the pregnancy in the first place.

Why don't you get off your hatred stump and use your limited intelligence to educate men and women on the dangers of UNPROTECTED sexual activities.

Your Republican talking points were defeated by a large majority last year, get over it. You wouldn't volunteer because it would remove your chance to complain.

Reaganconservative, it is nonsensical and convoluted to COMPARE abortion and waterboarding prisoners. They are two completely different issues. I asked a question. I did not make an argument for anything except that it is crazy no matter how you flip the two issues around each other. THAT WAS MY POINT!

If what I write is so convoluted, don’t respond to it. Ignore me. I won’t mind.

Wow Bonnie, you sure have a lot of hate in ya! It's a sad sad thing! You can't even give Obama a chance because you refuse to take the blinders off. Are you not watching the collapse of the republican party before your very eyes? WHY? Because it was hijacked by a bunch of extremist like yourself! If your party continues to follow the likes of Rush Limbaugh as a leader, you will see the party totally destroyed. It's time in this nation for compromise in order to bring about REAL CHANGE AND RESULTS! If you can't do that, then you really lose your right to fuss about it all the day long.

Ron, where do you get your info? The extreme left-wing Media Matters and move0n.org. Anti-truth organizations.

NRAL is creditable source of information but it was not the only source. I've even given you the video explaining facts, and I've given you quotes by Obama that proves he votes against everything America has stood for all these years. Good for him ron if he admittied his wrong-doing to you. I've never heard him do anything but try to cover his misdeeds.

And Obama would never accept me as a vlunteer on any issue. He prefers those who are anti-american and those

who steal votes for his party (ACORN) and he would prefer someone who would agree with his policy of murdering the unborn.

Obama's votes and his past assoicates tells us much more than what he says.

When his teleprompter gets misplaced he's in big trouble. He can't even ad lib one sentence . I'm supposing its because someone wrote their ideas and he is relaying them.
