Where is the demand for a constitutional amendment?
The letter stating that our country’s laws are based on ‘Biblical authority’ is misleading. It was Thomas Jefferson who wrote; “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.”
The Declaration Of Independence states; “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Mr. Singletary said marriage is not a contract. If marriage is not a contract, why do you have to go to court to get a divorce? You can let a hunting, fishing or driver’s license expire. You don’t have to go to court to stop fishing. If gays and lesbians want to be legally married, they should be allowed. Why should only straight people have the right to be miserable?

According to the Constitution, government has no right to make laws concerning which words we can use. It's an insult to our intelligence.
It's completely unfair to pass judgment on others just because they don't have the same morals or faith as you do.
Here's one more for you since we're on the subject of what the bible says..., I love eating shellfish. Love em! Leviticus 10:10, says this is a abomination. Is it a lesser abomination than homosexuality Just curious.

I am a Pro-Union, Pro-Worker, Left of Center, Registered Proud Democrat, have been since Ronald Reagan first started selling this nation out to the highest bidder, running this nation into debt. John F. Kennedy once gave a speach in which he described himself as a LIBERAL. Count me in!
And if you read the post a little more carefully you will find that I did not mix the religion with politics. A long time ago I got very tired of listening to people talk like they were the moral authority on this nation. The biggest problem I have with Democrats is they are wimps. They always want to get along. No matter how many times they get kicked in the teeth they will smile and say, "It will be alright". It ain't alright as pointed out in your comments. It is time for the Democrats to get a backbone and start representing the Working People of America like they did in the 1930's. They shed the mantle of bigotry in the 60's, it is time the picked up the mantle of the working man in the 21st Century.
I will now turn my opinion towards the political side. I know Ron_Sr will love this one, because during the whole religious spat we have all had here in the last 30 post, Ron_Sr has found a way to mix Religion with government, which is a big no-no. We all know now that Ron_Sr is a very Vocal Republican. The same party that took the strongest economy the US has seen in a while, and in 8 short years of the Republican BUSH reign, put us into a recession, quad-drupled our national debt and sent us to a war that was un-neccesary and we lost countless lives because of it. At this point in time, most of this county is approaching the federal poverty level due to the loss of jobs that the Republican Government allowed to leave the country, but still stood behind the "poor" countries and shoved trillions of dollars into their economies, all the while they were killing ours. Now the effects have hit home during a Democratic regime, and they all blame it on the Democrats.
For the record, I am neither.

The Constitution? Did you really say that? Who do you think created the Constitution? If the Constitution is changed, who do you have to go through for that? The Government.
The Constitution means nothing until "We the People" realize that we live in the real world.
Every "Right" you have except for the right to be alive and later die, is granted by the Government! And taken away by the Government!
"The right to bear arms" yet you have to go through the "Government" and then pay them in order to go out and purchase a firearm, which is strongly regulated by the "Government". They outlaw specific firearms every year. The Government is trying to outlaw firearms everyday. Yet your Constitution gives you the right to bear arms. Do you see the pattern?
You have to go through the "Government" in order to exercise the "privledges" they allow you to have, not rights.
Everyday this country moves closer to being Communist. This is a major political issue that the majority of the people in this country seem to be overlooking.

A one-world government. Stated in the Bible, thousands of years ago. Now it's coming to fruition right before your very eyes, yet you still choose not to believe what you can see. I now know why you can't possibly begin to fathom something you cannot see.

We all have the right to worship in this country, what we do not have the right to do, is interefere with the rights of others. It is very difficult for me to keep my cool with someone who blogs approval of torture and denying human rights and at the sme time is blogging quotes from the Bible and claiming to be a Christian. I am certainly not the judge of her religious ideals, but my concept of a Christian is one who tries to pattern their personal life like the life of Jesus. I just can't see Jesus, or any person with high moral values, approving of denying human rights or approving of torture!
So people like Rupert Murdock buy the radio stations, kick anything off the airwaves they don't agree with, and then put on the idiots and liars that you so faithfully follow. No "Fairness Doctrine" is going to change that and Progressives know it. But their voice will still be heard because the truth will always win out over the fear and hate spewed by neo-cons.
When a comment is "you sinner this and you unbeliever that" and is coming from someone with an opposing view, it seems to be including me. I have tried to direct my responses to the poster of whichever comment I am referring to. Not anymore. They are up for grabs.
I agree that not all gays want to be married. The ones that do should be allowed. Just because some people have always been forbidden to marry in the past doesn't make it acceptable now. Also, could you please explain the "right myth"? I don't get my rights from the government, I get mine from the Constitution.
The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by the Congress or the preference of one religion over another, non-religion over religion, or religion over non-religion. This is why this IS NOT a CHRISTIAN ISSUE; or any other religion issue.
Let’s just stay away from the right myth. If you have to get it from the government, it is not a right.
First, if gay marriage is made legal in the US, it wouldn't require the CHURCH to perform gay marriages, so how is this such a huge CHRISTIAN ISSUE? Maybe I'm bias because I'm a Christian who actually has many gay friends. Exactly how does the legalizing of gay marriage change what is perceived as a sin? I've heard all sorts of takes on this, but its my understanding that the majority of Christians believe the sexual act with a person of the same sex is a sin. So, if gay marriage is made legal, exactly how will that change the amount of homosexual acts going on in this country? Legalizing gay marriage isn't going to up the number of homosexuals any more than legalizing marijuana would up the number of marijuana smokers.
Bonnie, you mentioned something that really hit home with me, and that is... people who love the Lord follow the law of God out of LOVE for Him. That is exactly and precisely why I am compelled to obey God! Let me assure you, making something a national LAW will not change the heart of man! If a person wants to sin, they will sin no matter how many laws you have in place to stop them.
I think it's high time we start doing a lot more PRAYING for those who don't know Jesus and a lot less judging and dictating in order to bring people to Jesus. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church and I was taught DO NOT SIN BECAUSE GOD IS WAITING TO STRIKE YOU DOWN! Well, that just didn't work out for me, and it doesn't work out for the majority of people.
You don't come to know the incredible greatness of Jesus through fear and rules without reason! You come to that incredible relationship by realizing the great sacrifice Jesus made for us all, and after having that realization, falling head over heels in love with Jesus!
The rebellion we see in todays society is a direct result of a society teaching all about the rules and the law, and nothing about the GRACE AND MERCY and LOVE of Christ!
I am still in awe at what Christ has done for me, but I didn't get that revelation until I truly experienced the love and mercy and grace of God while I was at a very low point in my life. I didn't want to follow the rules, until I had that true love for Christ! I guess what I'm trying to say is ..... CHRIST can do what LAWS cannot!
They have also threatened to throw me off a bridge, tar and feather me, circulate a petition to make me move out of Richmond County, burn a cross (or hockey puck) in my yard, and throw me in a septic tank.
I guess the fact that we can sit safely behind our computer screens at our keyboards and spend a few minutes typing our thoughts to others who disagree with us does give us a certain feeling of arrogance. To me it is fun. I hope it will be to you too. Don't take any of the remarks personally.
There have been only 271 people who read the letter on line anyway. So the 23 comments didn't really make a dent in the future of someone's thoughts or change their minds.

Why not speak out against the fairness doctrine just as vehemently. If passed it will limit our freedom of speech even more than it has been already. Democrats have been trying for years to get that passed and also they want to end the 'electoral vote' that our ancestors established.
None of you knows anything about me except my feelings on equal rights for all. You don’t know my age, race or marital status. You don’t know what my life experiences have been.
You don’t know what my religious beliefs are. Christian? Jewish? Muslim? Buddhist? Hindu? Pagan? Atheist?

To all of you self-righteous, arrogant bigots: The world does not revolve around you and your opinions. You have every right to your opinions. So do I. The difference is I don’t make judgments and assumptions about people I don’t know and point to GOD as the reason. I don’t care what your opinions of me are, bring it on. You are just making me feel stronger that MY beliefs and convictions are the right ones for ME. You are also showing others that if someone doesn't agree with you, you can be hateful and spiteful.
