After more than a year of speculation, a Newport-based sporting goods company confirmed that it will be the occupant of a new 310,000 square-foot distribution center in Richmond County. It will employ between 100 and 150 people.

Big Rock Sports is the parent company of All Sports, AWR Sports, CSI Sports, Henry’s and MT Sports. It operates wholesale sporting goods distribution centers across the nation. Collectively, Big Rock Sports’ companies service more than 15,000 hunting and fishing retailers from coast to coast and internationally.

“In the sporting goods business, they are a huge distributor,” said Rick Sago, Richmond County’s economic development director.

Even as the massive building was being built, it was referenced only as the “SRB Holdings” project. The center sits on 30 acres near the U.S. 74 Bypass. and can be expanded to 500,000 square feet, Sago said.
