Rockingham man arrested in connection with beating

A Rockingham man has been arrested in connection with a victim beaten and robbed on Midway Road, Rockingham, said Capt. J. K. Glidewell, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilbur Wyand Jr., 48, Galestown Road, Rockingham, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and larceny from the person.

He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

The victim was looking for someone on Midway Road and stopped to talk.

He said men from a car behind him came up and opened the door to his vehicle and began to assault him.

The victim told deputies he was hit with a water meter valve key and dragged out of his car.

He told deputies he saw someone hit him before he passed out. When the suspects left, he told deputies he drove to a friend’s house from where he was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center emergency room.

Missing from his wallet was $580 and 90 tablets of a prescribed medication valued at $200.

Incidents reported to the sheriff’s office include:

n On Ponds Lane, Rockingham, a 29-year-old woman told deputies a suspect beat her up.

n A 1989 Toyota was stolen from a yard on Mt. Moriah Church Road, Hamlet.

n A generator valued at $700 was stolen from a Roebuck, S. C., man at a business on U.S. 1 North, Rockingham.

n A break-in at a house on Petunia Lane, Rockingham, was reported.

n At a club on Ledbetter Road, Ellerbe, a woman was reported to be shot.

n On Ingram Street, Rockingham, someone did $300 damage breaking the window of a vehicle.

n At a house on Maner Road, Rockingham, someone broke in and stole $720 worth of property.

n At a house on Mill Street, Rockingham, someone stole 20 pills of a prescription medication.

n An 18-year-old victim told deputies he was assaulted at a house on Collins Church Road, Rockingham, when a suspect hit him with a bat and shot at him.

n A food stamp card valued at $30 was stolen from a house on 8th Avenue, Aleo, Rockingham.

n At a house on Waddell Street, Rockingham, someone did $400 damage to a door.

n Fire did $7,000 damage to a truck in the backyard of a house on U.S. 220, Norman.

n A suspect struck a vehicle parked on Barrett Street, Rockingham, with a log causing $500 damage.

n A victim told deputies that while at a house on Old Cheraw Highway, Rockingham, a suspect slapped her face and grabbed her around the neck.

n An outbuilding at a house on Loch Haven Road, Rockingham, burned, and deputies are investigating the cause.

n A victim walking along 2nd Avenue, Safie, Rockingham, told deputies he was hit in the head and face area with a bat, brass knuckles and a cinder block.

Incidents reported to the Hamlet Police Department include:

n Gregory Locklear, 46, West Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor panhandling. Bond was set at $500.

n Gasoline valued at $29.01 was stolen from a store on West Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet.

n A stereo valued at $150 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on McDonald Avenue, Rockingham.

n While parked at a store on Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, someone broke into a vehicle and stole a computer valued at $1,000 and a $189 radio.

n Ricky Gene Knight Jr., 32, Susan Drive, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of shoplifting. Bond was set at $500.

n At a business on Main Street, Hamlet, someone did $50 damage to a door in a break-in.

n Aaron Samory Ingram, 26, Bryson Drive, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting, delaying and obstructing an arrest. Bond was set at $1,000.

n Darion Moye Moore, 16, Taylor Place, Hamlet, was arrested on felony charges of breaking and entering, breaking and entering a vehicle, larceny after breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to real property. Bond was set at $10,000.

Information on criminal activity may be reported anonymously to Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 997-5454. When leading to arrests, rewards are offered for such information.
