Everyone came early Saturday morning for the Sandhills Regional Medical Center Spring Health Fair.

“By 9 a.m. we had run out of the 400 welcome bags I prepared,” said Kimberly Harrington, director of marketing, as she went back to prepare more.

Vehicles were parked all the way around the building followed by lines at several different health stations inside the first floor of the hospital.

Doctors and their staff members, hospital employees and community volunteers provided medical checks and information.

While minimal fees were charged for blood profiles and specific blood testing, all other work was free.

In addition to testing, the welcome bags could be used to accumulate all kinds of information regarding personal health.

Screening included checking ear drum pressure, bone density, carotid/peripheral, colon/rectal cancer, glaucoma, glucose, skin, visual acuity, stress, physical endurance and blood pressure and pulse.

EKGs were also offered free.

Body fat was analyzed, advice given on living wills, women and men health issues information given, information offered on nutrition, wounds checked and lower extremity health assessed.

More than just a health fair, the event offered many a thorough checkup on their current health, free except for blood work.
