Deputies arrest three in Dobbins Heights investigation

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has made five arrests involving illegal drugs, said Capt. J. K. Glidewell, one of which involved an inmate in the Richmond County Jail.

Three arrests resulted from an investigation of illegal drug activity in Dobbins Heights.

When deputies spotted what they believed to have been an illegal drug transaction, they approached the vehicle involved which then sped off, Glidewell said.

The driver was warned by deputies several times to stop, he said, but he continued to drive at a high rate of speed toward one of the deputies.

Two men outside the vehicle were apprehended and cited for their alleged involvement.

After a short pursuit of the vehicle, Glidewell said the driver stopped, jumped from the vehicle and ran. He was caught a short time later.

Shannon Torrell Harrington, 29, Carr Street, Hamlet, was arrested on felony charges of selling and delivering marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, felony speeding to elude arrest, felony assault on a government officer with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor charges of driving while license revoked and resisting arrest.

During Harrington’s arrest, deputies seized 15 grams of marijuana.

His bond was set at $100,000.

Two men were arrested on Page Street outside the vehicle.

Arthur Wayne Smith, 44, Morrow Street, Dobbins Heights, was issued a citation for simple possession of marijuana.

Jeffrey Vinson David, 39, Joyce Circle, Hoffman, was issued a citation for possession of an open container of alcohol on a public street.

Michael Robert Dixon, 28, Southern Pines, was arrested on a felony county of possession of a controlled substance on jail premises.

Jail personnel called for a K-9 unit to search a suspect’s jail cell and found a small bag of crack cocaine wrapped in a piece of toilet paper under a mattress.

Bond for Dixon was set at $10,000.

Tommy Lorenzo Morrison, 37, U.S. 1 South, Rockingham, was arrested on a felony charge of selling and delivering cocaine on Caley Lane, Cordova.

His bond was set at $2,500.

In another case, Ronnie Lee Oxendine, 18, Short Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a felony charge of larceny of a dog.

Bond was set at $5,000.

Involved was an incident in which a four-year-old female pit bull dog valued at $500 was stolen from a house on South Street, Rockingham.

The owners paid a man a $200 reward for returning the dog after they posted notices of it being missing. The man alleged he bought the dog from Oxendine for $25.

Incidents reported to the sheriff’s office include:

n At a business on Cognac Road, Marston, someone broke in and stole $7,200 worth of tools.

n At a place on Pineneedle Lane, Hamlet, someone broke into a building and stole over $8,090 worth of tools and equipment.

n At property on Midway Road, Rockingham, someone threw bricks at vehicles causing $700 damage to a truck and $500 damage to car.

n A check valued at $473 was stolen from a house on Hatcher Road, Rockingham.

n At a business on E. V. Hogan Drive, Hamlet, someone stole $145 worth of property.

n A boat valued at $900 was stolen from a house on U.S. 74 East, Hamlet, along with $278 worth of other property.

n While it was parked at a business on U.S. 74 East, someone broke into a vehicle and stole a $250 CD player.

n At a residence in Dobbins Heights, someone did $50 damage to a power line.

n A lawn mower valued at $20 was stolen from a yard on Raider Road, Rockingham.

Incidents reported to the Rockingham Police Department include:

n Jeremy Terrell Flowers, 22, Chance Drive, Cordova, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault inflicting injury. Bond was set at $5,000.

He is charged in connection with an assault on a man who was transferred from FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital to FirstHealth Moore Memorial Hospital for treatment of a jaw broken in two places and a concussion.

n A woman left her handbag beside a toilet in a store at Falling Creek Plaza Shopping Center, Rockingham. When it was later recovered, $100 and two prescription drugs were missing.

n Gloria Kay Gore, 33, Four Oaks, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of larceny. Bond was set at $500.

n Teaira Lynette Deans, 16, Four Oaks was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of larceny. Bond was set at 4500.

n A Hamlet woman told police she dropped her $30 wallet in a store at Falling Creek Plaza, and it contained a $2,000 diamond ring, a $400 diamond ring and $60.

n April Michelle Rush, 30, Laurinburg, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of injury to personal property. She was released on a written promise to appear in court.

n Police seized 12 bags of marijuana while arresting Jamar Centell Jones, 19, Raleigh Street, Hamlet, on a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver.

Bond was set at $10,500. Police were investigating a curfew violation at the time on Cauthen Drive, Rockingham.

Jones was also arrested on an order for arrest for misdemeanor larceny.

n Jonathan Levon Thomas, 24, Raleigh, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $1,000.

n Jamar R. Ellerbe, 24, Bonneville Court Apartments, Rockingham, was issued a citation for having an open container of alcohol in public.

n Amber Dawn Malpass, 29, Rosa Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of larceny. Bond was set at $500.

n At a residence on Gore Drive, Rockingham, someone did $100 damage to a window and stole two prescription medications.

n There was a diesel fuel spill at a store on U.S. 1 South, Rockingham, in which 100 gallons of fuel valued at $222 was spilled. It was cleaned up by an environmental service company.

Information on criminal activity may be reported anonymously to Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 997-5454. When leading to arrests, rewards are offered for such information.

n Arrest reports published in the Richmond County Daily Journal are copied from local law enforcement records. Except for people injured in motor vehicle accidents or reportable deaths, victims including people, businesses and institutions and their addresses are not included as a matter of newspaper policy. Reports include both arrests and criminal summons such as citations. The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.

$2,500 bond for selling & delivering cocaine and a $5,000 bond for stealing a dog!? how does the magistrate set bond? by spinning the big wheel?
