Hamlet arrests suspects with illegal drugs

Hamlet Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection with the possession of controlled substances.

William Brandon Dawkins, 30, South Calvert Road, Rockingham, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of simple possession of marijuana, and possession of both Schedule II and Schedule III controlled substances.

His bond was set at $1,500.

Richard Lee Sweatt Jr., 17, Bush Street, Rockingham, has been arrested on misdemeanor charges of simple possession of marijuana, littering, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, failing to register a vehicle, an expired inspection sticker and an insurance violation.

Bond was set at $1,000.

Other reports by Hamlet police include:

n John Charles Magee, 52, Columbia Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested on a felony charge of assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a female. Bond was set at $3,500.

n Daren Anthony Dawkins, 23, Charlotte Street, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of impeding traffic. Bond was set at $500.

n Someone did $500 damage to a window on a vehicle parked on High Street, Rockingham.

n Someone did $300 to a vehicle window when it was parked on Maple Avenue, Hamlet.

Incidents reported to the Rockingham Police Department include:

n Dennis Edward Saunders, 34, Beaverwood Court, Rockingham, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of larceny; and resisting, delaying and obstructing an arrest. Bond was set at $1,500.

n Samuel Prince Bullard, 46, Mill Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of second-degree trespass. Bond was set at $500.

n At a business on West Broad Avenue, Rockingham, someone did $100 damage to a utility trailer and stole $500 worth of items from it.

n At a store on Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, a parked vehicle was left unlocked, and a pocketbook was stolen for a loss of $50.

Incidents reported to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office include:

n On O. G. Reynolds Road, Ellerbe, someone stole a $500 radio from a business.

n A dog valued at $150 was stolen from a house on 2nd Street, Safie, East Rockingham.

n At a house on Louis Breeden Boulevard, Hamlet, someone stole $1,904 worth of tools and other property.

n A deer stand valued at $300 was stolen from property on Godfrey Road, Ellerbe.

n Damage estimated at $350 was done to a house on Ghio Road, Hamlet.

Information on criminal activity may be reported anonymously to Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 997-5454. When leading to arrests, rewards are offered for such information.
