Yolanda’s eight little cuties were born February 11 at the shelter shortly after she arrived. The Miniature Pinscher/Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix pups are now 10 weeks olds; five are currently available for adoption. Restricted adoption requirements are in place due to the small size of the pups. Call the animal shelter at 895-0335 for more information.
The Humane Society of Richmond County will hold its second Walk for Animals Saturday, April 25, at Ellerbe Springs Restaurant and Inn. This year’s walk has an added theme - a Critter Walk for the Cure of Cancer. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life.

In order to give shelter employees and a limited number of shelter animals the opportunity to participate in the Walk, the animal shelter will be closed to the public Saturday, April 25. The shelter will be open Sunday, April 26, 1 to 4 p.m.

Registration for the one-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk will conclude at 2 p.m. The cost is $10 per walker/animal with $5 for each additional animal. Walkers will receive bandanas and a goodie bag with doggy cleanup supplies.

Ellerbe Springs Restaurant will have “fun food” available for purchase or walkers may bring a bag lunch. Energy drinks and water will be provided.

A raffle drawing will be held at 2 p.m. Tickets for the mystery raffle can be purchased at the animal shelter or at the walk. The cost per ticket is $2 or 3 for $5.

You do not have to be present to win.

Raffle prizes include a dog adoption kit valued at $100 and a cat adoption kit valued at $80 as well as embroidered shirts and hats by Vector Shirts, gift certificates from Pizza Inn and much more.

New earth-tone Humane Society T-shirts will be available for $10. The t-shirts will feature a new custom made paw-print ribbon logo designed by David Lindsey of Vector Shirts.

Walkers can also have their furry friends photographed and registered with the Humane Society. The $6 fee will cover the cost of lost or found registration, two photos and a HSRC ID tag. Pet owners will receive a copy of the photos by mail.

Walkers without animals of their own are also urged to participate. Several of the shelter’s adoptable dogs will be available to walk.

Economic hardship in our community has increased the numbers of animals released to the animal shelter, according to director Candy Bacon. The community’s support of the mission of the Humane Society is needed now more than ever.

For more information, contact Candy Bacon at 895-0335 or 205-1596 or Valerie Davis at 334-0275. Donations may be mailed to: Humane Society of Richmond County, P.O. Box 2064, Rockingham, NC 28380.
