The faculty roster of 17 members come from around the world. An international competition will award over $20,000 in prizes, and many students will be given opportunities to perform in New York and European cities as well.
Smith was the organist at the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines for five years before going to college. Smith will be auditioning interested students in May and June.
Applicants must prepare a memorized solo classical program including several etudes and pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods. Students may apply in piano, violin, or cello. Applicants may submit a CD or a DVD to Dr. Reid Smith. Recordings must be received by June 1. Local auditions in the Raleigh area will be held May 15-17 between 2 and 6 p.m. by contacting hreske@aol.com or calling 919-557-0639.
Smith received his Bachelors of Music at Boston University, his Masters of Piano Performance at The Juillard School, continued his studies at the Vienna Hocheshule fur Musik under a Rotary International Graduate Fellowship, and earned his Doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
In addition to many performance opportunities, students at the festival receive private lessons and master classes. Observers of all ages and parents are welcome.
