Inmate charged with attempted robbery

Darius Jarrau Bowden, 22, Park Street, Ellerbe, was arrested in connection with an incident with another inmate in Richmond County Jail, Capt. J. K. Glidewell said.

He was arrested on a felony charge of attempted common law robbery and misdemeanor assault and battery. Bond was set at $10,000.

When another inmate was put into a cell block at the jail, Bowden allegedly slapped him in the face telling him he better not tell anyone what happened, Glidewell said.

The victim inmate told jailers that Bowden allegedly checked his pockets and searched his socks for his money, Glidewell said.

He said inmates are allowed to have a small amount of money with which to buy snacks from the jail canteen.

In another case, Bryan Kent Hoover, 18, Galestown Road, Rockingham, was arrested on a felony charge of assault inflicting serious injury.

His bond was set at $10,000.

The 53-year-old victim was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for treatment which included the use of staples to close a wound.

The victim told deputies he was on Midway Road when assaulted and robbed of $200 worth of prescription medications and $580.

He told deputies he was looking for someone when two suspects attacked, knocking him unconscious. When he awoke, he said a third person was assaulting him as well.

n At a business on Loch Haven Road, Rockingham, someone did $700 damage to a sign by spraying paint on it.

n A lawn mower valued at $1,500 was stolen from a residence on Greenland Road, Rockingham.

n A puppy valued at $125 was stolen from a house on Mill Road, Rockingham.

n A Hamlet woman reported someone used a missing debit card to obtain $947.53 worth of property.

n On St. Stephens Church Road, Rockingham, someone stole $1,600 worth of property from a house.

n At a business on Rosalyn Road, Cordova, $200 was stolen.

n A four-wheel vehicle collided with the side of a brick house on Crawford Road, Ellerbe, causing $5,000 damage.

Incidents reported to Rockingham Police Department include:

n A Rockingham man reported he lost his bank card and found out it had been used to obtain goods in Rockingham and places in Moore County.

n For the second time this week, someone cut tires on a vehicle parked on Shannon Drive, Rockingham, causing $120 damage. Earlier, $55 damage was done to a tire.

n On Roberdel Road, Rockingham, someone did $100 damage to a mailbox and pole.

n James Michael Allison Jr., 20, Jackson Springs, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of communicating threats. He was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.

n A window was broken at an institution on Wall Street, Rockingham, causing $150 damage.

n A window on a building on East Broad Avenue, Rockingham, was broken causing $1,300 damage.

n Thomas Wayne Covington, 34, Cabel Boulevard, Rockingham, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while license revoked. Bond was set at $1,000.

n Breonna Tionne Williams, 16, South Skipper Street, Rockingham, was arrested on two counts of communicating threats, and one count each of assault with a deadly weapon, assault, disorderly conduct; and resisting, delaying and obstructing an arrest. Bond was set at $5,000.

n On Walnut Lane, Rockingham, someone stole $650 worth of property from a yard.

n William Henry Hayes Jr., 39, Crestway Drive, Rockingham, was arrested on felony charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $20,000.

n Crystal Stirk, 34, Shannon Drive, Rockingham, was arrested on warrants for failure to appear in court on two counts of driving while license revoked. Bond was set at $1,000.
