Harry A. West Jr. and the former Hazel Anne Webb were married April 3, 1960 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The couple met at Rockingham High School when both played basketball. They were both born and raised in Rockingham.
The Wests are now retired. He was an illustrator and map maker. She was a typesetter and senior accounting clerk.
They have two daughters, Debbie Giddens and Wendy Fitton, and three grandchildren, Jake Giddens, Mallory Giddens and Rainey Fitton, all of Sarasota.
The Wests plan to have their 50th wedding celebration next year in Rockingham.
