Richmond County 4-H’ers were among others meeting recently at a teen retreat in Moore County for South Central District 4-H.

Moore County was the host to 100 youth and adults from the 15-county district.

This year’s district officers leading the meeting were Nick Clegg, president from Moore County; Kelli Hateley, vice president from Stanly County; Allen Monk, reporter from Bladen County; and Ashley Williams, secretary from Cumberland County.

Richmond County 4-H’ers Nathan Ezzell, Grayson McQueen, Courtney Miller, Logan Northcutt and Sarah Tyler attended workshops on scrapbooking, introduction to the Ambassador program, botanical prints, vermicomposting, and “Breaking the Ice: Introduction to Ice Breakers.”

The group spent the afternoon swimming and having fun at Moore County FirstHealth’s Health Fitness Center.

After recreation, the group completed this year’s service learning project of writing thank you notes to be delivered to youth involved in the Operation Military Kid Program.

This program gives “Hero” packs to children of deployed military parents. Inside each “Hero” pack is a letter to the military parent and child to thank them for their service and for sharing their lives with the country.

Courtney Miller of Richmond County was elected the new district reporter.

Dixie Acorn of Hoke County is the new district president, Luke Hill of Bladen County, vice president; and Ryan Fairley of Scotland County, secretary.

Bladen County received the District Spirit Stick for 2009 at the end of the weekend.
