St. Andrews rider qualifies for Collegiate Horse Show Association National Finals
As a freshman one year ago, Rob Jacobs of St. Andrews Presbyterian College failed to qualify for any post-season competitions. This year, he has qualified for the national hunter seat finals in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
Last weekend, Jacobs competed at the IHSA Zone competition at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Va., taking top honors in his class – Novice Fences. The top two finishers in each class qualify for the national finals.
Jacobs was the only St. Andrews rider to qualify for the nationals. Jessica Gesel qualified as an alternate as the third-place finisher in Walk Trot.
“It’s very important to me especially since I was the only one to make it on the English side,” said Jacobs of his national qualification. “I think I can represent the school well.”
A sophomore politics major from Temple Hills, Md., Jacobs achieved the highest score of any rider among all fence competitors.
The national finals will be April 25 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
