The 2009 Campaign for Relay for Life to raise money for the Richmond County Chapter of the American Cancer Society has begun.

Throughout the county, volunteers are conducting fund raisers in an effort to raise as much money as possible.

One of those volunteers is Beulah Bennett who has raised money for the last several years through her church, East Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy.

Last year she raised over $2,000 for the cause.

This year she began with a donation from Billy Thompson of Thompson Sunny Acres and Thompson Satellite.

“In these difficult times, it is a blessing that generous people like Mr. Thompson exist,” she said. “No amount is too small.”

Thompson said, “Relay for Life has been a big help for numerous members of our congregation at Pee Dee United Methodist Church. Through this organization, with generous donations and volunteers, lives have been saved and research to prevent, detect and treat cancer has benefited.”
