Mrs. Hazel Chappell Cox, 68, of 111 Belle Dr., Rockingham, NC, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at her home. She was born August 30, 1940 in Richmond County, NC a daughter of the late John and Juanita Chappell. Mrs. Cox retired from Burlington Industries in 2006 after 40 years of service. She attended Jefferson Park Freewill Baptist Church. Her husband and family were her life. She loved spending time with them at the beach and clogging.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Jefferson Park Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Webster and Rev. Ricky Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Ellerbe Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Vernon, and Edward Chappell.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Bernie Cox of the home; daughters, Teresa Bowman and husband Mike, Phyllis King and husband Roger, Marie Johnson and husband Ray, and Robin Martin and husband Joe, all of Rockingham; sisters, Lois Maske, Shirley Dawkins, both of Rockingham, and Louise Chappell of Hamlet; brothers, Gurney Chappell, Carl Chappell, Johnny Chappell, all of Rockingham, Earl Chappell of Derby, and Jerry Chappell of Wadesboro; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jefferson Park Freewill Baptist Church and at other times at 111 Belle Drive, Rockingham.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Hazel Chappell Cox, to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy. 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.

This lady was my mother in law,she was the best mother in law I have ever had,she loved her daughters to the fullest.she would do anything for them in a minute.She will be missed dearly.we loved her very much,she was just like a Mother to me.You could not have ask for the best Christmas or Thanksgiving,every visit with them was the best time.Phyllis and I had some good times with her and Bernie,we went to a lot of places with them.

I really enjoyed being with them,I was blessed to have them as my in laws.I got along with all my sister in laws and I get along with my brother in laws also.Been married to Phyllis for 29 years. She is a good woman,the best wife and mother a guy could every have.May Hazel Rest In Peace. ROGER D.KING
