In 2003 the administration warned that the size of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was a potential problem and could cause repercussions in the financial market.
While the Bush administration pushed hard for agencies to overlook and regulate the two financial institutions they were met with strong objections from Democrats.
Barney Frank told Secretary and Treasurer Snow, in no uncertain terms, that instead of the administration investigating they should be encouraging Freddie Mack and Fannie Mae to do more to get low income families into homes, advocating more bad loans.
Frank called the Republican concerns “an exaggeration” and said the entities are “fundamentally safe” while Chris Dodd threatened a filibuster if the proposal was brought to the table. All efforts to push through any bill to regulate finances were blocked by Democrats.
In 2005 Alan Greenspan warned that “enabling these institutions to increase in size we are placing the whole financial system of the future at a substantial risk”
Then in 2008 we elected a president who has had no experience, had never run anything and had only been in the Senate for 141 days. This president has advocated the largest debt in the history of America and has taken actions that has brought us into socialism which will make us just as weak economically and militarily as other nations.
We are no longer a nation of “We the People” - its now a nation of Pelosi, Reid and Obama.

I support Traditional values, Strong foreign policy, Courage, duty, Grace, Strength, small government, a willingness to fight for our freedoms, that includes freedoms for all - black, white, rich, poor. The Republicans had a majority in Congress and rode rough shod over the Democrats from 1994 to 2006. Secret meetings, ignoring anything the Democrats proposed. Sound familiar now? It should because the Republicans are crying about the same treatment from the Democrats. And they deserve it.
I seem to remember a few times that the Democrats had to hold investigative meeting at an off site location because the Republican controlled Congressional leaders refused to unlock the doors and turn the lights on in meeting rooms at the Capital building.
If a Regulation Bill had been put forth by the Republicans the Democrats would have voted for it. One Senator, and especially one Congressional Representative, does not have the power to stop a bill from coming to the floor for a vote for ever. The President of the Senate, No Chin McConnell, could have put it up for a vote. He didn't.
Did you read the news that our illustrious, "Where's he been" Senator Richard Burr is holding up the appointment of a decorated Iraq War Veteran, Tammy Duckworth, to a job in the Veterans Department because he wants to protect his friends in the Drug Companies. The only bill he has ever authored was one to keep the US government from making the drug companies bid on contracts to supply medications to medicare. Cost the Taxpayers billions.

But anyone who can see the suffering that is happening across this nation, and has a heart and a brain, would know that the very people who made the biggest profits from the last 30 years of lopsided trade agreements are not going to spend some of their hoarded wealth helping those who are suffering while they live in the lap of luxury.

The people are the government. Just so you understand my philosophy. If I went to a car dealer and bought a new car, brought it home and it wouldn't start again, I would let is sit in my driveway while I made payments on it. No, I would go to that dealership and demand they fix it or I would not pay for it.
Now I know the government has an advantage over that dealership. I don't pay taxes, they take them. But because they take them then I am involved in my government and have been for over 40 years. I am not as active as I once was because I don't feel like it. That is my perogative. A number of people refuse to acknowledge that the government takes their taxes. They like to claim they pay taxes. So be it. So I write letter to my members of Congress and blog on some websites and write letters to the editors.
When Bill Clinton was President he and the Republican Congress cut the size of Government by over 280,000 people. They didn't do it by laying people off, they did it through attrition. If someone left for retirement, quit, or even died their position was not filled. George W. Bush changed that direction.
And the Republicans, contrary to what Mrs. Wheeler, likes to claim, deregulated the banking, Wall Street, mortgage industry. And in other areas they cut funding so that the department that was suppose to safeguard the American public from unscrupulous operators didn't have enough people to conduct inspections.
For example, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, OSHA. You hear people complain about OSHA all the time but most of them do not realize that OSHA came to be because someone died. Or should I say, a lot of people died.
Now, why don't you set down and figure out what rights you have lost under any administration other than the last one. You lost your right to privacy in order to secure your freedom. Yea, right. But no one has taken anything from you in the way of what you can say or do in this country. Unless it adversely affects some other person.

Don’t just look at the last 30 years, go further back. The beast has been growing for decades. Republicans and Democrats have been at the helm as our rights have been diminished and our burdens increased. Pick any problem that the government has been “fixing” and it failed. Poverty, drugs, racism, security all have been failures. Why is that? Could it be that the politicians like it that way. If these problems were gone we would not need them.
