Mr. Gibson served in the US Army during Korean Conflict with the military police. He retired from J.P. Stevens with 30 years of service and was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church serving as Chairman of the Deacons. He enjoyed his wood working, fishing and gardening. He was gifted with a charisma which captured the hearts of children of all ages.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Effie Boone and Jean Lane.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet with Rev. Frank Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with military honors.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Wilma Benoist Gibson, a daughter, Lou Ann Gibson, and a son, Billy Gibson Jr., all of the home. Surviving also are a sister, Bobbie Capps, brother Tommy Gibson and wife Phyllis of Hamlet, Terry Gibson and wife Jackie of Shallotte and Keith Gibson and wife Gayle and grandson David “Scooter” Gibson of Mooresville.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet.
