Mrs. Ruby Bowman, 90, of Hamlet, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Sandhills Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 14, 1918 in Surry County, a daughter of the late Walter F. and Sally Pike Scott.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with Rev. Wayne Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at Watson-King Funeral Home; from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and at other times at the homes of her children, James Donald Raines and Betty Raines Wallace.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her step-mother, Sadie Pack Scott; husbands, Harry Woodrow Raines and Nathan G. Bowman; brothers, Tom Scott, John Scott, and Roscoe Scott; sisters, Maggie Hayden and Gladys Anderson; a grandson, James Donald Raines, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail A. Wallace.

Surviving are her son, James Donald Raines of Rockingham; daughter, Betty Raines Wallace of Rockingham; brothers, Arthur Scott and Bill Scott, both of Mount Airy; sisters, Maydell Cromer, Mary Goad, Margaret Lamb, Faye Johnson, and Maxine Scott, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
