My faith in young people is constantly renewed

Dear Editor,

As we all contemplate the effects of federal budget cuts, we might keep in mind the needs of those in our community who make sacrifices for us, especially returning veterans many of whom are injured and/or will need jobs.

My faith in young people is constantly renewed by those willing to continue to serve us no matter what the circumstances that may befall them.

Brought to mind is the recent announcement in the newspaper of the pending marriage of Megan Poe and Lt. Nick Prieto, neither of whom I know.

Both college graduates, they have chosen to use their mental and physical talents to serve us.

She as a deputy sheriff in Anson County. He as an officer in the U.S. Army Airborne at Fort Bragg.

Despite high risk careers, they are following a higher calling seeing value in their lives to consider public service nevertheless.

With citizens like them, our nation will surely endure.

You know, after reading my last comment I realized that it was a little bit ugly, I was just joking but it was inappropriate and I do apolojize to Mr. Easy and to the other readers.

sincerely, LBL

I guess I just get a little tired of Mr. Easy`s unrelenting campaign that does not interest me at all.

Mr.Macullum-The returning vets you speak of I have no problems with, nor do I have a problem with Megan or Nick, who is serving his country now.I once served my country in far away land called Lybia now.To the shores of Tripoli I went and stayed for 15 months, some shot themselves in order to get an undisireable discharge to return home. The reports of this never reached the newspapers here at home. They were no cell phones to call home on,no T.V.for kids to watch when they so desire ,the poor could not afford cars ,no giveaway proplems for those who would not accept handouts without working for them.Back in those days parents taught you that your word was your bond, pride in country and self was an absolute necessity for life.If my teacher would have had to call me down at school,my Dad would have would have called me out behind the smoke house where our meat was stored and corrected the problen the teacher had, which was me.My dad corected his problem, which was me,one time. From that point on he talked and I walked ,doing whatsoever the "Big Boss "said. But you know Mr.Macullum, that was the way poor people lived, you raised your children to obey or you payed the price later on.The ones who worked smetimes quit school to help out the parents ,later starting their on company's,becomeing very wealthy. All because they were taught to work and obey.I have hired many people in my life that worked, many that would not work. Those that would not work were usually terminated in the first few hours or days .Companies cannot survive unless production and quality comes together to meet the demands of the company one works for.You can ask any plant manager or manager any department in any plant and they will tell you,if they are truthful, that they probably keep one person out of eight that they hire for any length of time. The younger the person, the less they wish to work.Yes Mr.Macullum, they are exceptions ,my children were some of them ,they all work, none have ever asked me for help.I tell them if they need help to call me.How many young females in Richmond COUNTY and Nation wide who have babies that tax payers pay for and have never worked? We pay their rent payments ,water bills, insulate their homes, provide free food, pay their light bills and water bills. I know one couple who makes almost fifty thousand dollars a year as a couple who is working the system to get most of these benefits, the man is a supervisor where he works. He transfered from the north to N.C. because his state was not as stupid as ours.Public service is payed for by taxers who work, more puplic service we do not need and that is a fact.More child entertainment we do not need, the t.v.provides more intertainment in one day than I received in 18 years at home in cotton fields ,peach orchards, and tobacco fields ,all about abolished in our county. One vet I know was a tunnel rat in Cambodia where he was not supposed to be.He has applied for benefits for many years but so far has not received a disability check.Soon he will also be honered for the last time when he is buried,he is now on a breathing machine. They say the Machines will also replace us ,all production will be done by machine. That means Humans will not be needed to produce, only a handful to fix old daddy when he breaks down.Pappa>the largest computor in the world will replace dear old dad. They say they will think better than men.A hand full of children are great, raised correctly, but many are uncared for, never taugh good values.Their parents set bad examples ,not good ones. The county leaders that serve us as servants certainly do not sweat ,nor do they let the citizens of this land regulate their salaries. The poor working man is still around ,but other workers are few and far between, you know it and I know it.No county official or school superintendant deserves to make the money ours do.Why not let the assistants step down in county goverment, and let the super-boss do both Jobs.Plant managers do well without help,so do department heads with 160 people under them with 6 supervisors under them.Waste abounds in our county, the new court house,Hitchcock creek will be a trail of tears when some one is walking alone and meet the wrong one .Or rising waters wash it all away.Wake up people,we have to many public servants now ,lets cut the list.Keep the Lawman ,he does a good job and the Clerk of Court.
