NCHSAA releases hoops playoff brackets

ROCKINGHAM — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its final state basketball playoff brackets Saturday afternoon.

The Richmond Senior boys basketball team will open its postseason by playing host to Southeast Raleigh 7 p.m. Monday. The Raiders (18-8) are the No. 7 seed in the East Region’s East bracket, while the Bulldogs (15-10) are the 10th seed.

Hoke County (24-2), the East bracket’s No. 2 seed, will face East Wake (8-16). Pinecrest (14-9) is the No. 9 team in the East Region’s Mideast bracket will travel to Middle Creek (18-8) in the opening round. Lumberton (10-15) grabbed the 14th seed in the Mideast bracket and will head to Apex (18-9).

If the seedings hold, the Raiders and the Bucks would play for the fourth time this season in the second round Wednesday night.

The Richmond girls team (7-17) has been placed in East Region’s Mideast bracket and earned the 14th seed. It would open at Southern Durham (18-6), the bracket’s No. 3 team.

Scotland (21-3), the SEC’s regular season and tournament champions, are the East bracket’s No. 4 seed and will open at home against E.E. Smith (9-12). Lumberton (18-6) grabbed the East bracket’s fifth seed and will play host to Clayton (14-9), while Pinecrest (16-9) is the No. 8 seed in the Mideast and will welcome Apex (16-10).
